Delta Moves To Curb Fake Service & Support Animals On Board

If you ask US road warriors to list out the things that annoy them the most when they fly most of them will put unruly fake support animals down somewhere on their list.  Because the Air Carriers Access Act requires airlines to provide in-cabin travel for for service and support animals without charge, the number of animals seen onboard domestic flights had ballooned out of proportion and a lot of us suspect that a large percentage of these animals are neither genuine service animals or genuine support animals.

Walking The Walk – Using The Great Deals I Promote

When I write about a great airfare, a good hotel sale or a points promotion it’s always after I’ve checked to see that it’s a deal/promotion that I’d be happy to take part in – I do not promote deals that I think are poor. I may not be in a position to partake in all the promotions and sales I write about (I couldn’t afford to!) but it’s important to me that readers can be confident that, when I recommend something as a good deal, it actually is a good deal.

Iberia Opens A Refurbished Lounge In Madrid

I've visited the Iberia Velázquez Premium Lounge in the satellite portion of Madrid's Terminal 4 quite a few times and, although it can get quite crowded at times and finding a seat can get tough, I've never considered it to be in desperate need of a make over...there have always been far worse lounges out there. Still, clearly Iberia thought differently as it has given its T4 satellite lounge a make over and the new lounge is now open for guests. If you're a oneworld flyer this could be an important lounge for you as this is the lounge you'll almost certainly be using if you're flying long-haul out of Madrid on a oneworld airline.

Travelers Flying To The US From Hong Kong Can No Longer Use In Town...

I love the option of checking in in downtown Hong Kong because the lines are often non-existant and, if you have baggage to check-in, it means you don't have to schlep it all the way to the airport on the train - you check in at the station and the next time you see your bags is at your destination. It's great. Sadly, however, travelers heading to the US will no longer be allowed to use this option with immediate effect.

US Travel Ban Comes In to Effect Today – What You Need To Know

Following a Supreme Court ruling earlier this week the long debated US travel ban comes into partial force today. Flyers traveling on passports issued by Iran, Libya, Syria, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen are the people who will be most affected by the new regulations. With help from Stone Grzegorek & Gonzalez LLP, a Los Angeles based immigration law firm, I've taken a look at the consequences of the Supreme Court's actions and what happens next.

British Airways Starts Listing Flights Cancelled Due To Strike

Between 1 and 16 July 2017 BA's "mixed fleet" crews will be going on strike thanks to an ever increasingly acrimonious pay dispute that goes back over a year. Although BA flights to/from most UK airports are expected to be unaffected, the airline has now started to list the London Heathrow services which will fall foul of the impending industrial action.

Qantas Is Investing In The Science Of Ultra Long Haul Flights

I like to use my weekends to catch up on travel news from around the world and to see what I may have missed in the week just past....and this weekend I noticed a very interesting piece in Australian Business Traveller about what Qantas is doing with a look to the future of long haul travel. What interested me the most is that this wasn't a piece about a new aircraft or a new premium cabin seat but, instead, it was a piece focusing on the work Qantas is sponsoring right which looks to use science to help travelers combat the challenges of ultra long-haul flight.

No, I Will NOT Tip Uber Drivers

Uber has started to introduce "in app tipping" in the US with the cities of Seattle, Houston and Minneapolis having the dubious privilege of being the first to get the new functionality. The tipping option is expected to be fully rolled out across the US by the end of July 2017. The good news is that, apparently, the tip option won't be available in the app until after the driver has rating the rider so, if this is true, at least riders can't be held hostage if they value their Uber rating.

The New Airbus A380 That Passengers Are Going To Hate

The Paris airshow is one of the year's premier events at which airlines and airplane manufacturers get to show off some of their latest products and innovations. This year one of the biggest draws is almost certain to be the first Qatar Airways 777 to come equipped with the airline's incredible-looking QSuites ....but my take-away from the show is going to be something else. And that "something" isn't anything good.

CHAOS: British Airways Computers Are Down Worldwide

Update: 7:30pm UK/2:30pm ET: British Airways has now cancelled all flights from London Heathrow and London Gatwick for Saturday 27 May. Earlier the airline had cancelled all flights up until 6pm local time but it would now seem as if the outage is continuing and Saturday is a wash out. BA.com is now showing this message:

Emirates Makes Beijing & Shanghai All A380 Routes

Since November last year Emirates has operated a fleet of just Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft. There isn't another aircraft type in there and the airline loves it's A380s which it flys to as many destinations as it can get away with. Premium class passengers love the Emirates A380 too because, unlike on the 777, the A380 offers an excellent (if a bit bling-y) Business Class cabin which compares well with just about any other Business Class cabin out there (although I still prefer the Etihad A380 product).

WARNING: Why You Should Be Careful When Booking Positioning Flights

A week or so ago I saw a headline on a "consumer advocate" site that read "why you should never, ever book your flights this way" and it's that headline that's prompted me to write this post. The story the consumer advocate was writing about involved a traveler who booked a trip with more than one itinerary (i.e she booked flights from A to B with one airline and then booked flights from B to C separately with another airline) and who then faced a lot of issues when one of her flights encountered delays resulting in a missed connection.

Big Rumor: US To Introduce Electronics Ban In Carry On Luggage For Europe –...

In late March the United States decided to introduce a ban on all inflight electronics larger than a smartphone for departures to the US from 10 airports in the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey. A few days later the United Kingdom introduced a similar ban but only from 6 of the airports the US targeted. There were rumors at the time that the US may consider extending that ban to other airport and now those rumors appear to be hitting a crescendo.

Cathay Pacific’s London Heathrow Lounge Delayed….Again!

As a very regular visitor to Heathrow Terminal 3 I've been looking forward to Cathay Pacific opening its new lounge in the terminal but it looks like I'm going to have to wait a little bit longer. When Cathay first announced the refurbishment the plan was to have the new facility open for flyers in the first quater of 2016...but that was always ambitious given that the old lounge didn't actually close until November 2015. Since then various updates have suggested the new Cathay Pacific lounge would open in June, July, August and then September but nothing has materialised so far.

A Look Inside The New Qantas Business Class Lounge In Brisbane

If there is one thing that I like most about Qantas it's that it can do airport lounges very well when it puts it's mind to it. The First Class lounge in Sydney is fantastic, the Qantas First Class lounge at LAX is my favorite lounge in the US and I can't wait for the new Qantas lounge to open at London Heathrow Terminal 3 next year. All this is why I was particularly interested to see what Qantas would be offering at its new Brisbane International Lounge which opened its doors yesterday.
