Deal: Alaska Airlines Global Getaways (long-haul awards from 20,000 points + taxes)

Alaska Airlines has launched its latest edition of Global Getaways, the Atmos Rewards promotion that discounts Economy Class awards to a rotating set of international destinations by up to 50%.

There are nine destinations this time around, all in Economy Class (as usual), with one-way redemptions starting from 20,000 points. The booking window closes on 8 August 2026.

The key terms

• Bookings must be made between 4 and 8 August 2026
• Discounted pricing applies to Economy Class redemptions only, with no First Class, Business Class or Premium Economy availability included
• Travel dates vary by destination
• Pricing is offered on select flights operated by Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and Atmos Rewards’ global partners (e.g. Iberia, Cathay Pacific, and Japan Airlines)
• One enroute stopover of up to 14 days is permitted per one-way on eligible international itineraries, and two stopovers are permitted on a round-trip international itinerary, one in each direction
• Award seats are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis

The discounted awards carry the same change and cancellation rules as any other Atmos Rewards award, so they can be cancelled at no cost beyond the partner award booking fee.

The destinations and points costs

For travel between 5 January and 28 February 2027:

• Budapest, Hungary (BUD): from 25,000 points
• Edinburgh, Scotland (EDI): from 20,000 points
• Hong Kong (HKG): from 34,000 points
• Madrid, Spain (MAD): from 20,000 points
• Nadi, Fiji (NAN): from 30,000 points

For travel between 1 August and 23 October 2026:

• Rome, Italy (FCO): from 25,000 points

For travel between 1 August and 18 November 2026:

• Osaka, Japan (KIX): from 27,500 points

For travel between 1 November 2026 and 28 February 2027:

• Papeete, Tahiti (PPT): from 25,000 points

For travel between 1 August 2026 and 28 February 2027:

• Sydney, Australia (SYD): from 35,000 points

A discrepancy in the January travel dates

You should be aware that the promotion page and the terms and conditions do not agree on when travel to the five winter destinations can begin.

The destination listings on the promotion page state that travel to Budapest, Edinburgh, Hong Kong, Madrid and Nadi must take place between 5 January and 28 February 2027. The terms and conditions further down the same page state that pricing is valid for travel to those five destinations between 1 January and 28 February 2027.

We have used the 5 January date above because that is the date attached to each individual destination, but it is worth searching the first few days of January before assuming they are excluded.

A possible new bonus

The terms of this promotion state that Global Getaways pricing is offered on select flights “originating or ending in the United States”.

That’s interesting because, we think, the terms of the previous Global Getaways promotions restricted the discount to travel starting in the US (the February 2026 terms, for example, stated that “travel must originate in the US”).

Having now checked a few of the routes, this doesn’t seem to be an error, so a one-way award that starts at one of the eligible destinations and terminates in the United States will price up at the promotional rate.

Here, for example, is one-way award pricing between Madrid and Los Angeles for travel during the promotion window showing Economy Class awards costing 20,000 points + taxes and fees.

Also, here is one-way award pricing between Hong Kong and Chicago for travel during the promotion window showing Economy Class awards costing 34,000 points + taxes and fees.

And finally, here is one-way award pricing between Osaka and New York for travel during the promotion window showing Economy Class awards costing 27,500 points + taxes and fees.

This last one is a long, long way to fly in Economy Class, so kudos to you if you decide to book it (and good luck!) 🙂

Taxes and fees

Taxes and fees vary by itinerary and are based on the trip origin and destination, with the exact amount shown when searching a particular itinerary.

Awards on flights operated by Alaska Airlines or Hawaiian Airlines carry taxes and fees starting from $5.60 per person, each way.

Taxes and fees on international itineraries that include partner-operated segments can exceed $100 per person, each way. A $20 nonrefundable partner award booking fee is also charged per person, each way, which is an increase on the $12.50 fee that applied until the end of June.

That fee is waived for holders of the Alaska Airlines Atmos™ Rewards Summit Visa Infinite® card who pay the taxes and fees with the card and redeem from the primary cardmember’s account.

Note: Lap infants cannot be booked on partner award tickets and will not be accepted for travel.

How to book

There’s nothing special that you have to do to book these discounted awards (just make sure you search for travel during the appropriate dates for the destination of your choice).

• Select “use points” when searching for a flight on the Atmos Rewards site
• The discounted award fare will appear in the search results where it is available
• Select the award flight and complete the booking

Quick thoughts

Yes, I know. The discounts are for Economy Class only, the valid travel periods are short and they appear to coincide with the low season for the various destinations, so this is probably just another way of Alaska Airlines and its partners dumping inventory that they didn’t think was going to be sold anyway … but let’s be a little more positive about this.

If you’d like to visit one or more of these destinations, some of these deals are genuinely very good and the fact that they’re only available in Economy Class shouldn’t detract from that.

Better yet, now that these awards are bookable from outside of the US (one-way travel to the US only), they could come in useful for anyone without enough points to book a roundtrip premium cabin award but with enough points to book a one-way premium cabin award.

For example, if I wanted to fly between LA and Europe but didn’t have enough points to do the whole trip in comfort, I could book the LA – Europe sector in Premium Economy or Business Class (to give me a more comfortable seat and more space on the overnight sector) and I could book Madrid – Los Angeles (a daytime flight) in Economy Class (hopefully in an exit row).

Add to all of this the fact that award bookings on Alaska Airlines earn Atmos Rewards elite status credits, and there really is quite a bit to like here.

Bottom line

Alaska Airlines has released a new set of Global Getaways in which it’s offering Economy Class award redemptions to nine international destinations at up to 50% off.

One-way pricing starts from 20,000 points + taxes and fees, bookings must be made by 8 August 2026 (you don’t have long), and the travel windows vary by destination with five of the nine restricted to a two-month window in early 2027.

Importantly, the terms and conditions now refer to flights originating or ending in the United States rather than requiring travel to start in the US, so it looks like one-way awards into the US now get the promotional pricing as well.
