A little under three weeks ago, United announced a number of new international routes to Africa and India as well as two new domestic routes that the airline said would “make it easier than ever to travel nonstop to Maui and Kona for the 2021 summer season”. Following a weekend schedule update, the new Hawaii routes are now in the systems and United.com is taking reservations.

United’s New Hawaii Routes

Chicago (ORD) – Kona (KOA)

From 3 June 2021 United Airlines will operate a new non-stop service between Chicago and Kona and the currently published schedule is as follows:

UA066 ORD 10:15 – 14:35 KOA (Thu, Fri, Sat & Sun)
UA067 KOA 17:05 – 06:10+1 day ORD (Thu, Fri, Sat & Sun)

As expected, the route will be operated by a United Airlines 787-8 Dreamliner (giving First/Business Class passengers flat be seating) but, somewhat strangely, United only currently shows these flights operating through Sunday 15 August. This may change in a future schedule update as it seems odd that United would only schedule this service to operate for such a limited time.

Newark (EWR) – Maui (OGG)

From 3 June 2021 United Airlines will operate a new non-stop service between Newark and Kahului, Maui 4x/week, and the current flight timings look like this:

UA042 EWR 0810 – 1305 OGG (Thu, Fri, Sat & Sun)
UA043 OGG 1440 – 0610+1 day EWR (Thu, Fri, Sat & Sun)

As previously announced, the route will be operated by a Boeing 767-300 so passengers in the frontmost cabin will have lie-flat beds, and just like the new route between Chicago and Kona, this service is currently set not to run past Sunday 15 August.

Bottom Line

United has now announced the schedules for its two new non-stop services between the mainland and Hawaii. Both services will offer premium cabin passengers lie-flat beds (which will be especially useful on the overnight flights originating in Hawaii) but both services are only scheduled to run through 15 August. Reservations are now open for both routes.
