50,000 point welcome offer on the Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express [Targeted]

The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express is a solid TFM favorite thanks to its simple structure, its $0 annual fee and its useful earning rate on up to $50,000 of spending every year.

It’s one of the few cards that we consider a “must have” card for anyone playing the miles and points game and right now, there’s an excellent welcome offer being targeted to select Amex card holders.

The card in brief

Here are the key things that you need to know about the Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express:

• The annual fee is $0 – (see rates & fees – terms apply)
• The cost of employee cards is $0 – (see rates & fees – terms apply)
• The current welcome bonus (open to all) allows new cardholders to earn 15,000 Membership Rewards points after they spend $3,000 in eligible purchases on their Card within the first 3 months of Card Membership (terms apply)
• The card earns 2 Membership Rewards Points/dollar on all eligible spending up to a limit of $50,000/year and 1 point/dollar thereafter (terms apply).
• The Membership Rewards points that the card earns can be transferred to a variety of airline and hotel loyalty programs just like the points from all other Membership Rewards cards (more details here)
• The card has access to Amex Offers just like any other card.

It’s simple, cheap to hold, and very useful for spending that would otherwise not earn more than 2% back though any other card.

The boosted welcome offer

At the time of writing, Amex is targeting select card holders (it may just be card holders who already have a business card with Amex) for a welcome offer that looks like this:

Earn 50,000 bonus points after you put $6,000 of eligible spending on your new card in the first 4 months of card membership (terms apply).

I first noticed this in the Amex Offers section of my online American Express account …

… and this is the page the “see offer” link led me to.

The important thing for me to point out at this stage is this: I already have a Blue Business Plus Card from American Express so this isn’t only being targeted to people who don’t have this card and who have never had the card.

There’s no “lifetime language” in the card’s offer details (found on this page) so there shouldn’t be any restrictions (bar the usual financial restrictions) on who can and who cannot get this card.

For reference, the current publicly available welcome offer is for 15,000 points in exchange for $3,000 of eligible spending in 3 months (terms apply).

This is one of the highest welcome offers I’ve seen on this card and 50,000 bonus Amex points from a no-annual-fee card is great.

Given that we, here at TFM, value Amex points at 1.5 cents each (that’s what we think we can get out of each point without much effort), that values this welcome offer at $750.

That’s the kind of deal we’re more used to seeing on some of Chase’s no-annual-fee business cards and not on an Amex card.

I have no idea how widely or narrowly targeted this offer is, but I’ve included the links to the relevant pages in this article, so if you’re in the market for a great no-annual-fee business card, this may work for you.

Bottom line

One of our favorite credit cards is currently offering a targeted welcome offer of 50,000 Membership Reward points in exchange for $6,000 of eligible spending in 4 months (terms apply).

Given the nature of the card and the points on offer, this looks like a great deal to me so it’s definitely worth a closer look if you think this card (or another of these cards) would work well in your wallet.
