The last Amex offer for IHG stays that we recall seeing ended back in the middle of June, but right in time for the run up to the end of the year, a new targeted IHG offer has appeared. This offer has a broader reach than the offer we saw earlier in the year in that it covers more regions and it excludes fewer properties and brands.

Quick thoughts
The key bit of good news here is that while the target offer that appeared in the first half of the year was limited to properties in the US and US Territories, this offer also includes properties in Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.
Also, where the earlier offer excluded IHG’s higher-end bands such as InterContinental and Kimpton, this new offer covers most of IHG’s brands and only excludes a few select properties and the Iberostar Resorts.
Another small bit of good news from the terms and conditions is the fact that that the spending required to trigger the rebate doesn’t need to be made in a single transaction, so there’s no pressing need for a cardholder to hit the $250 target with a single booking … although most probably will.
The final bit of good news that we can see is that this offer has been targeted to all of our Membership Rewards cards (consumer and business), so this is clearly an offer that is being widely ‘targeted’.
The bad news here is that because Amex doesn’t issue any IHG Rewards credit cards, holders of IHG Rewards cards are going to have to miss out on some points if they’re to make the most of this offer.
Having said that, keep in mind that you don’t have to put all of your room and room charge spending on your targeted Amex card to trigger this offer (just $250), so if you’re going to be spending more than the $250 needed to trigger the rebate and you hold an IHG Rewards credit card, it will probably be worth asking the front desk if you can split your final bill across two cards – $250 on your Amex card and the rest on your IHG Rewards card.
Overall, it’s good to see Amex launching another targeted IHG offer and if you’re considering a stay before the end of the year you should check your American Express account to see if you have the offer waiting for you.

Amex has launched a new targeted offer for stays made at select IHG brands in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean through the end of December 2024. Make sure you read the terms and conditions of your targeted offer carefully before making any bookings and make sure you add the offer to a credit card that will earn you bonus points for travel/hotel stays to ensure that you maximize your earnings.
