Before this year, the last hotel promotions that I genuinely looked forward to were IHG’s Accelerate promotions which had all but fizzled out by the end of 2018. Since then, a lot of the promotions that hoteliers have been publishing have been boring and pedestrian but Hyatt’s performance in the second half of last year now has me eager to find out what more it has in store.

As a general rule, hotel promotions don’t really excite me because, on the whole, they’re not particularly inventive and they’re not particularly rewarding. However, in the second half of 2020 Hyatt shook things up and while most of the other hotel chains trod the same old boring path with their promotions, Hyatt went wild.

Hyatt’s Great Run Of Deals & Promotions

All of that came in addition to various other smaller deals/promotions that Hyatt offered (discounts for World of Hyatt credit card holders, discounted room rates and breakfast for all guests, etc…) and on top of the great news that Hyatt was halving the elite status requirements for 2021 and that top-tier elite status could be locked in which as few as 10 nights at Hyatt properties worldwide.

Now

Hyatt’s current promotions end on 28 February (Sunday) so there are just days left in which to earn double elite night credits, 3x or 4x points on stays, and to get up to 25% back on all award bookings and, ordinarily, I would probably be mourning the end of these great deals. Not today. Today I’m just looking forward to finding out what Hyatt’s next promotion will be because I expect it to be good. Possibly even very good.

While countries like Israel and the UK are proceeding with vaccine rollouts at an impressive pace, and while a number of other more developed nations are finally starting to get their vaccine programs up to speed, it’s worth remembering that most countries have yet to start inoculating their populations and that we currently have more travel restrictions in place than when Hyatt first introduced its fantastic Q4 2020 Bonus Journeys promotion.

There may be more general optimism around right now (because we’re finally seeing the vaccines get administered), but the fact is that things in the travel world are still pretty bad. Travel on an international scale will not be seeing any kind of significant recovery in the next few months and domestic (US) travel isn’t expected to show real signs of life before the summer.

What this all means is that the incentives that were in place for Hyatt to offer up a great promotion for Q4 2020 (and for the first two months of 2021) are still in place right now and that could be very good news for World of Hyatt fans.

Bottom Line

I have absolutely no idea what Hyatt has in mind for its next big global promotion but with its current promotions all ending in a few days, I suspect that we’ll soon be finding out. With most of the world still trying to get their hands on one or more of the vaccines (let alone actually administering them) and with the travel world continuing to struggle with all the restrictions that are still in place, there’s every reason to believe that Hyatt will feel that another great promotion is needed to keep its loyalists engaged. I can’t wait to see what it comes up with.

  1. Yes, it will be interesting to see. As for me, I live in hotels full time now, so I respond favorably to incentives. I’ll be happy if Hyatt extends the existing promo, but as it stands for the next two months, Marriott will get the bulk of my nights.

  2. None of this matters unless you are traveling for essential purposes. Quit putting peoples lives at risk by traveling or encouraging people to travel during this pandemic.
