Hyatt has now announced details of the promotion it will be running from 1 October through the end of the year and once again the hotelier has come up with something that’s orders of magnitude better than anything any of the other chains have come up with so far. Put simply, this is one of the best Hyatt promotions I recall seeing in recent years.
Hyatt Bonus Journeys (redux)
Hyatt’s current promotion (which ends on 15 September) is called “Bonus Journeys” and has been offering travelers triple points on most stays since the middle of June. Hyatt is sticking with the “Bonus Journeys” name for its 2020 year-end promotion but it’s also making some significant improvements to what the promotion offers.
Earn triple or quadruple points on stays
Between 1 October 2020 and 4 January 2021, World of Hyatt members will be able to earn triple points on across all Hyatt locations worldwide. This includes:
- All traditional Hyatt brands (Andaz, Hyatt Regency, Park Hyatt, Thompson Hotels, etc…)
- MGM Resorts that participate in the World of Hyatt program
- SLH properties that participate in the World of Hyatt program
- Lindblad Expedition experiences
In addition to the above, holders of card_name and the Hyatt credit card (closed to new applicants) can earn quadruple points for stays at over 350 resort properties across the world (up to 75,000 bonus points). The resorts participating in the quadruple points promotion will include 160 Hyatt properties, 200 SLH properties, and a number of MGM Resort destinations.
Earn bonus elite night credits
While Hyatt has extended all elite statuses for a further year, World of Hyatt members will soon have to start thinking about earning enough elite night credits in 2021 to retain their status through 2022. To that end, Hyatt wants to help out.
For every elite qualifying night earned on stays completed during the promotion (this includes award night stays), members will earn one elite qualifying night credit towards elite status the year in which they earn it, and one bonus elite qualifying night credit towards elite status in 2021.
What this means in practice is that every night stayed during this promotion will contribute to a World of Hyatt member’s progress to Milestone Rewards in 2020 as well as contributing to the member’s progress to Milestone Rewards and the renewal of elite status in 2021.
Note: Elite night credits earned through spending on the World of Hyatt credit card will not roll over into 2021.
There’s incredible value on offer
With World of Hyatt members earning a standard 5 base points/dollar, the triple points promotion will see members earning 15 points/dollar while the quadruple points promotion will see Hyatt co-branded cardholders earning 20 points/dollar.
Based on my valuation of World of Hyatt points (1.4 cents each) this represents an effective rebate of between 21% and 28%… but it gets better.
World of Hyatt elite members also earn bonus points based on the status they hold…
- Discoverist – 10% bonus
- Explorist – 20% bonus
- Globalist – 30% bonus
… and card_name offers 4 points/dollar on all spending through Hyatt.
This means that a top-tier Hyatt Globalist using card_name at a participating resort property will earn an incredible 25.5 points per dollar which I equate with a rebate of 35.7%.
Even holders of Discoverist status (a status bestowed upon all holders of card_name) would earn 24.5 points/dollar (a 34.3% rebate). I challenge anyone to find me a better-value hotel promotion than that 🙂
The added bonus of extra elite night credits is a very nice touch from Hyatt as it means that starting from 1 October, World of Hyatt members can make an excellent head start on earning status for 2022.
Essentially, World of Hyatt members are being given an extra 3 months in which to lock-in status for 2022.
Don’t forget
As of yesterday, Hyatt has extended its “free nights on sale” promotion as well as its promotion covering free parking and bonus points on spending made with in-house eateries, and all three of these will now run in tandem with the new Bonus Journeys promotion.
What this means is that World of Hyatt members can get 15% – 25% off all award bookings during the Bonus Journeys promotion while every night of these award bookings will count towards 2020’s Milestone Rewards as well as the Milestone Rewards in 2021 and elite status qualification for 2022.

Also, it’s worth remembering that Amex is currently targeting cardholders for a saving of $50 on $250 of spending at Hyatt properties through 10 November so this could be used to good effect in conjunction with the new Bonus Journeys promotion.
Good to know
- Registration for Hyatt’s new promotion will be open between 1 October and 30 November 2020
- The promotion will run from 1 October 2020 through 4 January 2021
- The 3x and 4x earnings are based on the base points awarded (elite bonuses are not factored into this calculation).
- Existing bookings falling within the promotion period will earn the bonus points on offer
- All stays that include a check-out date that falls within the promotion dates will qualify for the bonus points. Stays with a check-out date outside of the promotion dates will not qualify for the bonus points.
- World of Hyatt members will be able to earn a maximum of 150,000 bonus points in this promotion while holders of a Hyatt co-branded credit card get a slightly increased ceiling of 225,000 bonus points.
Bottom line
Hyatt has announced details of its end-of-year promotion and it’s a promotion that’s as good as any hotel promotion I’ve seen in the past few years.
Triple and quadruple points are being offered on stays through 4 January 2021 and World of Hyatt members can make a jump starts on earning elite status for 2022 courtesy of the rollover elite night credits that are being offered.
When all of this is combined with the other Hyatt promotions going on right now, it makes for a compelling argument as to why more of us should be looking to book any remaining 2020 stays at World of Hyatt properties.
