Amex has announced a small but reasonably important update to the Business Platinum® Card from American Express and the Business Gold Card from American Express.

The headline news is the addition of a new statement credit for ChatGPT Business subscriptions, marking the first time we’ve seen Amex add a dedicated AI-focused benefit to one or more its cards.

Importantly, these changes are being rolled out with no changes to the annual fees that these cards charge, so given how frequently we see “enhancements” accompanied by fee hikes, this is good news.

The New $300 ChatGPT Business Credit

As of 12 May 2026, both Business Platinum and Business Gold Card Members (U.S. versions) can access up to $300 in statement credits per calendar year for ChatGPT Business subscriptions.

From what we can see in the terms and conditions, this isn’t a monthly, quarterly, or twice-yearly credit, so it looks to be more versatile and more usable than a lot of other Amex statement credits.

As with most Amex “perks,” however, there are still a few hoops to jump through:

  • Enrollment is required: You will need to log into your Amex account and manually enroll in the benefit before your purchases will trigger the credit.
  • U.S. Purchases Only: The credit specifically applies to U.S. purchases of ChatGPT Business.
  • Auto-Renewal: Amex has said that these subscriptions are subject to auto-renewal, so you should keep an eye on your billing cycles if you only plan to use the credit for a specific period.

For those unfamiliar, the “Business” tier of ChatGPT differs from the standard $20/month individual Plus plan.

We’re told that it is designed as a shared workspace for teams, offering enterprise-grade privacy, single sign-on (SSO), and admin controls (I’m not sure what half of that means!)

If your business is already paying for this service, the new credit is a straightforward $300 back in your pocket. If you aren’t, you could look at this as a discounted way to see if Business AI could work for you.

Updated value for the Business Gold Card

With the addition of the ChatGPT credit, the Business Gold Card now offers up to $845 in potential annual statement credits. For a card that underwent a significant refresh last year, these additions help solidify its place for small business owners who may not need the heavy travel focus of the Platinum card but want a return on their annual fee.

The $845 total is comprised of:

  • $300 ChatGPT Business Credit (New)
  • $240 Flexible Business Credit: Up to $20 back per month on eligible purchases at select shipping, food delivery, and retail merchants.
  • $155 Walmart+ Credit: Covers the cost of a monthly membership ($12.95 + tax).
  • $150 Squarespace Credit: Available per calendar year.

Terms apply and enrollment may be required.

Whether or not you think all of that is worth the Business Gold Card’s $375 annual fee will depend on what your regular business expenditure looks like (I don’t hold this card), but if you are ChatGPT Business user, this new credit could represent a very easy way to recoup 80% of the card’s annual fee with next to no effort at all.

Business Platinum value

For the Business Platinum Card, American Express is now highlighting over $4,000 in annual value through its various credits in return for the $895 annual fee.

This includes the new $300 ChatGPT credit alongside existing benefits for wireless services, recruiting (Indeed), travel (hotel credits/lounge access) and tech (Dell) – see all the credits here (terms apply and enrollment may be required to access credits).

While the “over $4,000” figure is very much a theoretical maximum (very few cardholders will actually maximize every single credit offered) and while I can’t really claim to being a fan of the Business Platinum card, the addition of a $300 in AI credit does seem to be a genuine enhancement for cardholders and given how much everyone seems to be using AI right now, I suspect quite a few businesses could find this to be one of the more useful credits the card offers.

Bottom Line

If your business is already utilizing AI tools or was considering seeing how AI can be integrated into whatever it is that you do, the new $300 ChatGPT Business credit provides genuine, tangible value.

If this is of absolutely no interest to you, you’re not losing out because Amex has added this benefit to both the Business Platinum and Business Gold cards without raising the annual fee, that news is as surprising as it is good.

Make sure you log in to your online Amex account(s) and enroll your cards if you plan on putting this new credit to use.
