Alaska Airlines is continuing to build on its new friendship with American Airlines by adding a number of routes out of Los Angeles and Palm Springs as well as increasing the frequencies on a further three routes that it already operates out of LAX. Coming on top of the airline’s previously announced expansion at LAX, this is another big bit of positive news for travelers based in Southern California.

Alaska’s New SoCal Routes

Back in July of this year, Alaska Airlines announced that it would be adding 12 new non-stop destinations out of Los Angeles, and with the first of these routes set to see service in just a few day’s time, the airline has now confirmed that it is advancing its “sun & snow” strategy by connecting Los Angeles and Palm Springs to four destinations.

Los Angeles – Cancun

This route will operate between 17 December 2020 and 12 April 2021 on the following schedule:

AS440 LAX 07:00 – 14:30 CUN (Daily)
AS441 CUN 15:25 – 17:50 LAX (Daily)

Alaska Airlines will operate this route using its Boeing 737 aircraft.

Los Angeles – Reno

This route will operate from 17 December 2020 and, as things stand, is scheduled to operate year-round. The schedule for the winter season is as follows:

AS440 LAX 19:35 – 21:09 RNO (Daily)
AS441 RNO 08:00 – 09:37 LAX (Daily)

Alaska Airlines will operate this route using its E175 aircraft.

AS3494 RNO 14:05 – 15:40 PSP (Mon, Thu, Fri, Sat & Sun)

Alaska Airlines will operate this route using its E175 aircraft.

Palm Springs – San Jose (CA)

This route will operate from 17 December 2020 and, as things stand, is scheduled to operate year-round. The schedule for the winter season is as follows:

AS440 PSP 11:35 – 12:57 SJC (Daily)
AS441 PSP 15:45 – 17:07 SJC (Daily)

AS440 SJC 09:30 – 10:53 PSP (Daily)

Brett Catlin, Alaska’s managing director of capacity planning and alliances, is quoted as saying:

“As demand for leisure travel returns, and for those ready to fly the coop, we’re excited to offer even more nonstop routes this winter”

“We’ve long offered nonstop flights to some of the most popular vacation destinations from Southern California, and we continue to see demand for our unique low fare, high-quality experience.”

Tickets for all five of these new routes are now on sale.

LAX Frequency Increases

As well as adding a couple more services out of LAX, Alaska Airlines has confirmed that it will be increasing services on three of its existing routes (one of which only started in January of this year) from 17 December.

  • The service between Los Angeles and Guadalajara increases to two daily flights
  • The service between Los Angeles and Salt Lake City increases to two daily flights
  • The service between Los Angeles and Boise increases from one to three daily flights

Note: These service increases are for winter 2020/21 and do not represent the airline’s plans for summer 2021.

Bottom Line

From 17 December 2020, Alaska Airlines will add five new routes out of Los Angeles and Palm Springs. Three of the routes will be operating for the remained of the winter season while the remaining two are scheduled to operate year-round. Further to this, three of Alaska’s existing routes out of Los Angeles will see their frequqncies increasing from 17 December.
