United Airlines likes a good teaser more than most and it was back to its old ways yesterday in a social media post that suggested that we should expect new routes to far-flung parts of the globe. Well, the teasing is now over as United has just announced its latest plans for 2023.

United’s 2023 new/restarted route announcements

As teased, new routes are on the way with United adding flights to a variety of European destinations and a few routes are getting resurrected too. Here’s what the airline has announced:

New York/Newark – Malaga, Spain

From 31 May 2023, United will start to offer a new seasonal service between Newark and Malaga in southern Spain on the following schedule:

UA350 EWR 20:30 – 10:10+1 day AGP (Mon, Wed & Fri)
UA351 AGP 11:55 – 14:30 EWR (Tue, Thu & Sat)

The 3x/week service will be operated by a Boeing 757-200 offering 14 Business Class seats, 43 Economy Plus seats, and 101 regular Economy Class seats.

Note: This is good news for any NYC-based travelers who want to visit the new luxury Hyatt La Zambra property.

New York/Newark – Stockholm, Sweden

United Airlines will return to Stockholm on 27 May 2023 after a pandemic-induced absence of 4 years (this route last operated in 2019). As things stand, this is what the summer schedule looks like:

UA68 EWR 17:15 – 07:25+1 day ARN (Daily)
UA69 ARN 09:10 – 11:55 EWR (Daily)

Just like the new route to Malaga, United will operate its Newark – Stockholm route using a Boeing 757-200 aircraft with 14 Business Class seats, 43 Economy Plus seats, and 101 regular Economy Class seats.

Chicago/O’Hare – Shannon, Ireland

Also on 25 May 2023, United Airlines will start to offer another seasonal service to Shannon from Chicago O’Hare (the airline already offers a seasonal service to Shannon out of Newark). This is the currently published schedule:

UA288 ORD 18:20 – 07:30+1 day SNN (Daily)
UA289 SNN 09:30 – 11:45 ORD (Daily)

Just as with the new route to Malaga and the restarted route to Stockholm, United will use a Boeing 757-200 to operate this route which will offer 14 Business Class seats, 43 Economy Plus seats, and 101 regular Economy Class seats.

Chicago/O’Hare – Barcelona, Spain

Chicago will see further expansion from United Airlines when on 25 May 2023, the airline starts to offer a daily non-stop seasonal service between O’Hare and Barcelona. Here’s the schedule as it currently stands:

UA789 ORD 21:25 – 12:50+1 day BCN (Daily)
UA770 BCN 14:50 – 17:50 ORD (Daily)

The new daily flights to Barcelona will be operated by a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner offering 28 Polaris Business Class seats (the real Polaris seat), 21 Premium Economy seats, 36 Economy Plus seats, and 158 regular Economy Class seats.

All flights will be operated by United’s 787-9 Dreamliners featuring true Polaris Business Class (48 seats), 21 Premium Economy seats, 39 Economy Plus seats, and 149 regular Economy Class seats.

Paris will also get some more love from United next year when the airline launches a second daily flight from Washington Dulles on 2 June. Once the second flight has launched, this is what the schedule will look like:

UA915 IAD 17:20 – 06:55+1 day CDG (Daily)*

Bottom line

United Airlines has now updated us on its plans for summer 2023 and new seasonal services to Malaga, Berlin, Rome, Shannon, and Barcelona are on the way as well as is a return to Stockholm. London and Paris will be getting increased services from Los Angeles and Washington D.C. respectively and all of this comes on top of the slightly older news that United will be launching a new service between Newark and Dubai from next March.
