Hilton’s Canopy Bangkok Sukhumvit is now open (use cash, not points)

Hilton has opened the Canopy Bangkok Sukhumvit, the first Canopy property in South East Asia, and the seventeenth hotel that’s bookable with Hilton Honors points in Bangkok. Nevertheless, more choice is always a good thing, so here is what you need to know about Hilton’s latest Bangkok opening.

Overview

Canopy Bangkok Sukhumvit, which Hilton describes as “a 174-room high-end boutique hotel”, sits at 98, 98/1 Sukhumvit Soi 12 in the Asoke neighborhood.

That puts it a six-minute walk (approximately) away from the Asoke BTS Skytrain station and, approximately, a 10-minute walk from the Sukhumvit MRT station.

Also within 10 minutes walk are the Hilton Bangkok Grande Asoke (~4 minutes walk), the Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit (~8 minutes walk), and the Courtyard Marriott Bangkok Sukhumvit 20 (~10 minutes walk).

The public spaces at the new Canopy were designed by AvroKO, which handled the lobby and two of the restaurants. The guest rooms and one of the bars were, apparently, designed separately.

Hilton says the design draws on the history of the area, including the nearby Sri Krung Sound Film Studio, one of Thailand’s early sound-film studios, and the Klong Toey port district. The rooms feature a blue Paa Khram fabric canopy above the bed, a nod to one of Thailand’s oldest handwoven textiles.

Beyond the rooms there’s a rooftop pool with cabanas and a 24-hour fitness center and the property also offers a “City Curator” who runs a program of local experiences as well as a retail tie-up with Bangkok lifestyle brand LalaLove (I have no idea what this is!).

The rooms

There are 174 rooms in total, including three suites across two suite types (one King Suk Jai Suite and two King Asoke Suites).

Here are the non-suite room types, in ascending order of nightly cost:

• King Canopy Room and Twin Canopy Room – 322 sqft/30 sqm
• King Canopy Urban View Room and Twin Canopy Urban View Room – 333 sqft/31 sqm

• King Canopy Courtyard Room and Twin Canopy Courtyard Room – 344 sqft/32 sqm

• King Canopy Courtyard Deluxe Room and Twin Canopy Courtyard Deluxe Room – 344 sqft/ 32sqm
• King Canopy Corner Room – 387 sqft/36 sqm

• King Connecting Room – 644 sqft/60 sqm combined, being two King Canopy Rooms with an adjoining door

One thing to note is that the Courtyard Room and the Courtyard Deluxe Room are both 344 sqft/32 sqm, so the Deluxe costs more without giving you any additional space. The key difference between the two appears to be that the Deluxe room is on a higher floor.

The two suite types rank by size:

• King Suk Jai Suite – 505 sqft/47 sqm
• King Asoke Suite – 602 sqft/56 sqm

Both suites have a separate living area and bedroom, a dining table and chairs, and a bathroom with a separate bathtub and shower.

For guests traveling together, the property offers nine pairs of interconnecting rooms, which share an entrance area, and seven pairs of connecting rooms, which have a door between them.

Dining

The hotel has four food and beverage outlets:

• Cante – a Spanish fire grill and taberna serving wood-fire dishes and sharing plates

• SoolHaus – a Korean-inspired late-night cocktail bar

• Luso – an all-day café serving Bangkok-roasted coffees and Thai-sourced teas
• Glint – the rooftop pool bar

Breakfast is not included in the room rate here. Breakfast-inclusive rates are bookable separately, and that’s now normal across Canopy after Hilton moved the brand away from including breakfast for all guests a few years ago.

What it costs

I’ve checked cash and award pricing for every month from August 2026 through July 2027 to see how the two stack up against each other.

Here’s the monthly average cash rate (with tax), the monthly average award cost, and the value that gets you per point:

• August 2026 – $170 / 50,600 points / ~0.34 cents per point
• September 2026 – $150 / 39,700 points / ~0.38 cents per point
• October 2026 – $159 / 49,800 points / ~0.32 cents per point
• November 2026 – $165 / 50,000 points / ~0.33 cents per point
• December 2026 – $181 / 50,000 points / ~0.36 cents per point
• January 2027 – $179 / 96,700 points / ~0.19 cents per point
• February 2027 – $182 / 98,600 points / ~0.19 cents per point
• March 2027 – $152 / 82,000 points / ~0.19 cents per point
• April 2027 – $152 / 82,000 points / ~0.19 cents per point
• May 2027 – $155 / 83,500 points / ~0.19 cents per point

Thoughts

The cash rates look good for a shiny new hotel with 322 sqft entry-level rooms, a rooftop pool, and just a short walk away from good transport connections. I’d happily pay between $150 and $182 a night (including taxes) for that.

From an award booking point of view, the numbers don’t look promising with the best value on offer being 0.38 cents per point.

Clearly, this is not a property to book with points, and especially not with points purchased in any of the frequent Hilton sales in which points can be purchased from 0.50 cents each.

I should note, however, that the points pricing from January onwards looks odd with seven consecutive months all just offering 0.19 cents per point in value. Those are months in which cash rates mostly hover between $152 and $182 while award nights cost between 82,000 and 98,600 points.

It may be that the property hasn’t fully loaded its award inventory for 2027 yet, so we’re not seeing a true representation of the value that will be on offer, but even if we assume that 0.19 cents per point isn’t a true view, that only leaves us with the remaining months of this year on which to base our judgment and that still looks bleak.

Overall, however, I like the look of this new property and I especially like the cash rates which may tempt me to stay here on my next but one Bangkok visit (I’m already booked into the Grand Hyatt Erawan for my next trip).

Bottom line

Canopy Bangkok Sukhumvit is open now, it’s the first Canopy in South East Asia, and it offers 174 rooms starting at 322 sqft/30 sqm in size.

Cash rates currently average between $150 and $182 a night including taxes across the next twelve months, and at those prices this looks like a good place to spend cash and a bad place to spend Hilton Honors points.
