It's not a card I get as excited about as its Membership Rewards-earning sibling (which is currently the subject of its own targeted welcome offer), but right now there's a welcome offer being targeted to select Amex card holders that's worth a look.
The Blue Business Cash® Card from American Express is a simple business card with a $0 annual fee and a flat cash back rate on up to $50,000 of spending every year (terms apply).
It’s not a card I get as excited about as its Membership Rewards-earning sibling (which is currently the subject of its own targeted welcome offer), but right now there’s a welcome offer being targeted to select Amex card holders that’s worth a look.
The card in brief
Here are the key things that you need to know about the Blue Business Cash® Card from American Express:
- The annual fee is $0 – (see rates & fees – terms apply)
- The cost of employee cards is $0 – (see rates & fees – terms apply)
- The current welcome bonus (open to all) allows new cardholders to earn a $250 statement credit after they spend $3,000 in eligible purchases on their card within the first 3 months of Card Membership (terms apply)
- The card earns 2% cash back on all eligible spending up to a limit of $50,000/year and 1% cash back thereafter (terms apply)
- The cash back is paid automatically as a statement credit, so there’s nothing to redeem and nothing to transfer
- The card has access to Amex Offers just like any other card
It’s simple and cheap to hold, and for anyone who just wants straightforward cash back on everyday business spending and who doesn’t want to play around with miles and points, it could work well.
The boosted welcome offer
At the time of writing, Amex is targeting select card holders (it may just be card holders who already have a business card with Amex) for a welcome offer that looks like this:
Earn a $500 statement credit after you put $6,000 of eligible spending on your new card in the first 4 months of card membership (terms apply).
I first noticed this in the Amex Offers section of my online American Express account …

… and this is the page the “see offer” link led me to.

The important thing for me to point out at this stage is that although I don’t currently hold this card, there doesn’t appear to be any “lifetime language” in the card’s offer details (found on this page) so there shouldn’t be any restrictions (bar the usual financial restrictions) on who can and who cannot get this card.
It’s also worth remembering that this card is considered completely separately from the Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express, so holding one has no bearing on your eligibility for the other (or for the welcome offer on the other).
As mentioned earlier, the current publicly available welcome offer is for a $250 statement credit in exchange for $3,000 of eligible spending in 3 months (terms apply).

This is one of the higher welcome offers I’ve seen on this card, and $500 cash back from a no-annual-fee card is a very good deal.
That’s double the standard offer for, admittedly, double the spend, so the return on the incremental $3,000 of spending is still a full 16.7%, which is not something you see on a no-annual-fee card very often.
As with a lot of no-annual-fee cards, something worth noting is the 2.7% foreign transaction fee that this card charges, so don’t use this card if you venture outside of the United States.
I have no idea how widely or narrowly targeted this offer is, but I’ve included the links to the relevant pages in this article, so if you’re considering a straightforward no-annual-fee business card, this may work for you.
Bottom line
One of Amex’s simplest business cards is currently offering a targeted welcome offer of a $500 statement credit in exchange for $6,000 of eligible spending in 4 months (terms apply).
That’s $500 back on a card that costs nothing to hold, so if you think a standard 2% cash back business card (or another one of these cards) would work well in your wallet, it’s worth checking to see if you’ve been targeted for this deal.
