Lyft currently partners with four loyalty programs and its partnership with Hilton dates back to 2019. For most people, this is probably Lyft’s most rewarding partnership, and it allows Hilton Honors members to earn points on rides booked in the United States and Canada.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Hilton/Lyft partnership.

How it works

  • To earn Hilton Honors points, a Hilton Honors account must be linked to a Lyft account (here)
  • Hilton Honors members earn 3 Hilton Honors points/eligible dollar spent on Lyft rides
  • Hilton Honors members earn 2 Hilton Honors points/eligible dollar spent on shared Lyft rides
  • Eligible spend is defined as spending made on one of the following ride types:
    • Lyft Standard
    • Wait & Save
    • Priority Pickup
    • Green
    • Extra Comfort
    • Black
    • XL
    • Black SUV
    • Access
    • Car Seat (in markets where available)
  • Points will not be earned on the taxes, fees, tolls, and tips that form part of your Lyft charge
  • Customers can earn Hilton Honors points on up to $10,000 of eligible Lyft spend per year
  • Lyft currently only operates in the US and Canada

The value on offer

We value Hilton Honors points at 0.4 cents each so, effectively, this Hilton/Lyft partnership represents a 1.2 cents/dollar (1.2%) rebate on the first $10,000 we spend with Lyft every year (we never even come close to hitting the cap).

That, however, isn’t the end of the points earning possibilities as by using a credit card that earns bonus points for travel and/or transit services (which include rideshare services) to pay for any Lyft rides taken, a Hilton Honors member can ‘double dip’ and earn other currencies as well.

Right now, these are what we think are the better deals available:

Points earning cards

  • Chase Sapphire Reserve®– 10 points/dollar with Lyft*
  • Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card – 5 points/dollar with Lyft*
  • Chase Freedom Unlimited® – 5 points/dollar with Lyft*
  • Chase Freedom Flex℠ – 5 points/dollar with Lyft*
  • Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card – 5 points/dollar with Lyft*
  • Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card – 5 points/dollar with Lyft*
  • Ink Business Cash® Credit Card – 5 points/dollar with Lyft*
  • Ink Business Premier® Credit Card – 5 points/dollar with Lyft*
  • American Express® Green Card – 3 points/dollar on travel (includes rideshare services)

Note: All information about the American Express® Green Card has been collected independently by Traveling For Miles. The American Express® Green Card is not currently available through Traveling For Miles.

*Through 31 March 2025.

Cash back cards

  • Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express – 3% cash back

We value Chase Ultimate Rewards points at a conservative 1.5 cents each so for our purposes, the Chase Sapphire Reserve offers a 15% effective rebate (through 31 March 2025) and all the other Chase cards mentioned above offer an effective rebate of 7.5% (through 31 March 2025).

Those are fantastic returns to be given and are more than just the icing on the cake when added to the Hilton Honors points on offer too.

We value Amex Membership Rewards points at 1.5 cents each as well, so that card offers us an effective return of 4.5% which is a little more than the return offered by the only cash back card on our list – 3% from the Blue Cash preferred.

New user offers

Ever since the dawn of the Hilton/Lyft partnership, a new user offer has been available, and as far as I can tell, it has never changed. This is it.

New Lyft users may receive up to $15 in Lyft ride credits in the form of three (3) $5 credits off the new user’s Eligible First Ride(s). “Eligible First Ride(s)” means a New Lyft User’s first, second and third Lyft rides that are completed within the United States and/or Canada and within 60 days of signing up as a new Lyft user via hiltonhonorslyft.com.

For a limited time, however, a second new user offer is also now available, and this one is giving Hilton Honors members (who link their accounts during the promotion period) the chance to earn 1,500 bonus points.

Hilton Honors members who connect their Linked Account during the Promotional Period and complete five (5) Eligible Lyft Rides will receive a bonus of 1,500 Hilton Honors Points (“Bonus Points”) within two (2) weeks after the fifth completed Eligible Lyft Ride. Bonus Points do not count toward elite tier qualification.

The key terms for this offer are as follows:

  • This offer is only valid for Hilton Honors Members who, during the Promotional Period, both link their Hilton Honors membership number to their Lyft accounts on HiltonHonorsLyft.com and complete five (5) Eligible Lyft Rides.
  • “Promotional Period” means July 24, 2024 at 12:01am ET to September 3, 2024 at 11:59pm ET.
  • “Eligible Lyft Ride” means any paid Lyft Ride requested and completed using the Lyft app within the United States or Canada after registering the Linked Account.
  • “Lyft Ride” is defined as one of the following ride types: Lyft Standard, Wait & Save, Priority Pickup, Green, Extra Comfort, Black, XL, Black SUV, Access, and Car Seat (in markets where available).
  • For the avoidance of doubt, bike and scooter rides are excluded.
  • Hilton Honors members who have a Linked Account prior to the start of the Promotional Period are not eligible for this offer.
  • Members who de-link and re-link their Lyft accounts during the Promotional Period are not eligible for this offer.
  • Offer valid one-time only.

A link to the full terms and conditions for both new user offers can be found on this page.

Bottom line

There’s nothing to dislike about the Hilton Honors/Lyft partnership.

Unless you would prefer to earn Alaska Airlines miles (1 miles/dollar), Delta SkyMiles (2 miles/dollar on airport rides & 1 mile/dollar on all other eligible rides), or Bilt Rewards (2 points/dollar), you’re not giving anything up by linking a Hilton Honors account with a Lyft account and that the kind of deal we love in the miles & points world.

Also, you can increase your effective return by making sure that any spending you make with Lyft is charged to a credit card that awards bonus points for travel and/or transit (including rideshare) spending.

Lastly, don’t forget that for a limited time, new users of the Hilton/Lyft partnership can earn a 1,500 point bonus and up to $15 in Lyft ride credits.

If you’re a Hilton fan, use Lyft, and haven’t yet linked your accounts, now would be a good time to do exactly that.
