Reminder: Earn 20,000 bonus Amex points on Air France/KLM bookings [Targeted]

This is a reminder (because, for some reason, it just reappeared on my Platinum card) that Amex is running a good offer for spending with two SkyTeam airlines – Air France and KLM – which allows targeted cardholders to earn an impressive 20,000 bonus Amex points when they spend just $1,000 with either airline.

Quick thoughts

It’s a shame that this is limited to departures from the US but this is still a very nice offer to be targeted for as it’s essentially the points version of the ‘spend $1,000 and get $200 back’ offer that Amex often publishes for Air France/KLM spending.

$1,000 isn’t much to spend on air travel (if you’re a family or booking a premium cabin), and when you add in the fact that the spending requirement doesn’t have to be met in a single transaction and that you only have to book and pay (not fly) by 30 August 2026, this becomes an offer that should be relatively easy to use.

At TFM, we value Amex Membership Rewards points at 1.5 cents each, so that values this offer at $300 which I think most would agree, is a great effective rebate when the spending requirement is just $1,000.

I appear to have this offer targeted to all my membership rewards cards (including the Platinum Card® from American Express) so it looks like this may be a widely targeted offer.

For obvious reasons, this is good news because a lot of readers should be able earn the 5 points/dollar that the consumer Platinum Card offers on up to $500,000 of spending made directly with airlines (1 point/dollar thereafter – terms apply).

When those points are added to the 20,000 bonus points from this offer, consumer Platinum card holders will have earned at least 25,000 points.

We would value that at $375 and that’s quite a good reason to start searching for good good Air France/KLM deals to book.

Bottom line

American Express is now targeting select cardholders for an offer which would allow them to earn 20,000 bonus Amex Membership Rewards points when spending a minimum of $1,000 with Air France/KLM.

If you have been targeted, make sure you read the terms and conditions of the offer carefully before you book (not all spending with the airlines will qualify to trigger the credit) and make sure you book using the US versions of the Air France/KLM websites.
