As part of a broader set of domestic route announcements, Delta has confirmed that it plans to follow in the footsteps of Alaska Airlines and offer more seasonal services between California and destinations that offer travelers access to wide open spaces, national parks, mountains and more outdoor activities than most people can handle.

Delta’s New Los Angeles Routes

Delta’s new summer seasonal routes from Los Angeles (LAX)

Starting from early May, Delta will launch new summer seasonal services from Los Angeles (LAX) to Bozeman, Kalispell, and Missoula (all in Montana) and Jackson Hole (Wyoming). Not only does this appear to be a move to capitalize on the anticipated increase in the number of travelers looking to enjoy the great outdoors, but it’s also a direct challenge to Alaska Airlines who already offers a service between LA and Bozeman and who will also be launching service between LA and Glacier Park in May.

Bozeman (BZN)

From 5 May 2021, Delta will operate a daily service between Los Angeles (LAX) and Bozeman, Montana through 6 September 2021. At the time of writing, this is what the planned schedule looks like:

DL3745 LAX 11:25 – 15:10 BZN (Daily)
DL3746 BZN 16:00 – 17:43 LAX (Daily)

Glacier Park – Kalispell (FCA)

From 28 May 2021, Delta will operate a daily service between Los Angeles (LAX) and Glacier Park through 6 September 2021. At the time of writing, this is what the planned schedule looks like:

DL3615 LAX 09:10 – 12:55 FCA (Daily)
DL3615 FCA 13:10 – 15:41 LAX (Daily)

Note: Alaska Airlines plans to operate this route twice-weekly (Wed & Sat) from 20 May 2021 through 7 September 2021.

Missoula (MSO)

From 8 May 2021, Delta will operate a twice-weekly service between Los Angeles (LAX) and Missoula through 5 September 2021. At the time of writing, this is what the planned schedule looks like:

DL3568 LAX 08:00 – 11:54 MSO (Sat & Sun)
DL3504 MSO 12:45 – 14:33 LAX (Sat & Sun)

Jackson Hole (JAC)

From 28 May 2021, Delta will operate a daily service between Los Angeles (LAX) and Jackson Hole through 6 September 2021. At the time of writing, this is what the planned schedule looks like:

DL3708 LAX 12:15 – 15:34 JAC (Daily)
DL3708 JAC 16:29 – 17:50 LAX (Daily)

Delta’s New Service For Fresno

Los Angeles isn’t the only California city to be getting a new summer route from Delta. From 29 May 2021, Delta plans to offer a new Saturday service between Seattle and Fresno to open up access to Yosemite for travelers from Washington. As things stand, this is the schedule that’s expected to operate through 4 September 2021:

DL3794 SEA 11:25 – 13:33 FAT (Sat)
DL3794 FAT 14:21 – 16:42 SEA (Sat)

Note: Alaska Airlines already operates multiple daily flights between Seattle and Fresno.

The Aircraft

All five of Delta’s new seasonal California routes will be operated by SkyWest operating as Delta Connection using the Embraer 175 aircraft – the same aircraft that Alaska Airlines will be operating on its new California routes.

There are at least three different cabin layouts for the SkyWest E-175 but I think the one shown above will be the one used on all the routes mentioned in this post.

The First Class cabin offers seats that are 21″ wide and that offer 37″ of pitch (legroom), the Comfort+ seats offer a little over 17″ of width and 34″ of pitch, while the standard Economy Class seats offer a little over 17″ of width and 32″ of pitch.

Bottom Line

Starting in May, Delta will offer new summer seasonal services from Los Angeles to Bozeman, Missoula, Kalispell, and Jackson Hole while, also for the summer season, the airline will introduce a Saturday service between Seattle and Fresno. All flights are now on sale on Delta.com.
