Alaska Airlines appears to be increasing its focus on California. Earlier this week we saw the airline offering California residents free flights just for joining the Alaska Mileage Plan loyalty program, and now we have the airline announcing four new seasonal routes that will operate out of the state’s three major airports.

Alaska’s New California Services

Starting from May, Alaska Airlines will launch new services to Bozeman and Kalispell (Montana) from Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego as the airline looks to capitalize on the anticipated increase in the number of travelers looking to enjoy the great outdoors (Bozeman is just 90 miles from Yellowstone National Park while Kalispell is where you’ll find Glacier National Park, Whitefish Mountain Resort, and Flathead Lake).

Here’s what the airline has planned:

Los Angeles – Kalispell

From 20 May 2021, Alaska Airlines will operate a twice-weekly service between Los Angeles (LAX) and Kalispell, Montana through 7 September 2021. At the time of writing, this is what the planned schedule looks like:

AS2429 LAX 12:00 – 15:40 FCA (Wed & Sat)
AS2430 FCA 16:20 – 18:10 LAX (Wed & Sat)

San Diego – Kalispell

From 20 May 2021, Alaska Airlines will operate a 3x/week service between San Diego and Kalispell, Montana through 7 September 2021. At the time of writing, this is what the planned schedule looks like:

AS2565 SAN 10:55 – 14:50 FCA (Mon, Fri & Sat)
AS2566 FCA 15:30 – 17:25 SAN (Mon, Fri & Sat)

San Diego – Bozeman

From 20 May 2021, Alaska Airlines will operate a 3x/week service between San Diego and Bozeman, Montana through 7 September 2021. At the time of writing, this is what the planned schedule looks like:

AS2545 SAN 10:30 – 14:15 BZN (Tue, Wed & Thu)
AS2546 BZN 14:55 – 16:35 SAN (Tue, Wed & Thu)

San Francisco – Bozeman

From 17 June 2021, Alaska Airlines will operate a 3x/week service between San Francisco and Bozeman, Montana through 7 September 2021. At the time of writing, this is what the planned schedule looks like:

AS2358 SFO 09:00 – 12:15 BZN (Sat)
AS2359 BZN 13:00 – 14:20 SFO (Sat)

These new seasonal routes come in addition to the year-round services that Alaska Airlines already offers on the three routes that connect San Diego with Missoula, Montana, and Los Angeles with Bozeman and Missoula.

The Aircraft

All four of Alaska’s new routes will be operated as Horizon Air using the Embraer 175 aircraft, a jet aircraft that Alaska Airlines boasts has only window and aisle seating – no middle seats.

The First Class cabin offers seats that are 21″ wide and that offer 37″ of pitch (legroom), the “Premium Class” seats offer a little over 18″ of width and 34″ of pitch, while the standard Economy Class seats offer an impressive 18″ of width but a cramped 30″ of pitch.

Alaska has confirmed that customers on all the new routes will be able to enjoy hundreds of movies and TV shows available for viewing on personal devices, free texting (on most flights), and Wi-Fi connectivity (for a fee).

Bottom Line

Starting in May, Alaska Airlines will offer new seasonal services to Bozeman and Kalispell Montana from Los Angeles, San Francisco, & San Diego Airports. These routes are now available for sale with one-way fares from $69 to/from Bozeman and from $89 to/from Kalispell.
