The Cabin was first Cathay Pacific lounge to offer the modern, sleek look we have come to expect when we walk through the doors on one of the airline’s renovated spaces but, a little over seven years after it first opened, the lounge is set to close at the end of April this year. In its place comes “The Deck” and we finally have our first look at what the latest Cathay Pacific lounge will offer.
Cathay Pacific – The Deck Lounge Hong Kong
The Deck will open on 22 March 2018 and is located on level 7 and close to gate 16 in Hong Kong Airport’s Terminal 1 in what was once a Dragonair lounge.
Just as with all of Cathay Pacific’s successful lounges the Deck will offer the airline’s famous Noodle Bar as well as a “range of self-service, freshly made international offerings”.
The Noodle Bar will serve a “selection of local classics” including wonton noodles in a hearty broth, fishball noodles and an assortment of Dim Sum and buns. Looking a little further east the noodle bar will also offer dan dan noodles and Japanese-style vegetarian noodles too.

Cathay Pacific’s The Deck Lounge Hong Kong
Here’s what else Cathay Pacific has had to say about its new Hong Kong Lounge:
The Deck is distinct from Cathay Pacific’s other lounges at its home in Hong Kong for the fact that it sits on a balcony on the eastern side of the terminal building.

From The Terrace, an open-ceiling L-shaped verandah featuring both table and individual seating, lounge visitors can take in panoramic views of the airport’s apron, taxi-ways and northern runway whilst enjoying their choice from a wide variety of drinks and dining options.

At 823 square metres, The Deck has seating for 180 passengers and is fitted with designer furniture and lighting carefully selected for practicality, comfort and privacy, while the use of natural materials, plenty of greenery and artworks by local artists add to the lounge’s welcoming atmosphere.

Thoughts
Cathay Pacific lounges can be hit and miss (the lounges at Tokyo Narita and Kuala Lumpur are very ordinary while the London lounges are great) but, when it comes to the lounges at the airline’s home base in Hong Kong, they’re almost always very good.
The Deck looks like it will follow that trend.
The lounge decor looks very similar to what you’ll find in the First Class and Business Class lounges at London Heathrow (that’s a good thing) and it’s even not that dissimilar to what you’ll find in “The Pier” First Class lounge in Hong Kong (that’s a very good thing).
The Pier First Class lounge in Hong Kong
I like how bright the lounge appears in the pictures supplied by Cathay and the big, open dining area looks uncluttered and a nice place to get something to eat before a flight.

The lounge looks like it will have a nice feel to it and, considering how many lounges Cathay Pacific now has in Hong Kong, it shouldn’t get too crowded (even at peak times).
I’m hoping to fly through Hong Kong in the next 12 months so I’ll do my best to swing past The Deck to see just how good (or bad it is)….but I’ll still be spending most of my time in The Pier! 🙂
