Amex adds 358 hotels to Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection

We’re getting quite a bit of news out of Amex right now. First there was the Tock integration into Resy announcement (big news for select card holders), then there was the news that Resy has now been integrated into ChatGPT, and now we’re told that over 350 properties have been added across the Fine Hotels + Resorts and the Hotel Collection platforms.

The news

American Express Travel has added more than 350 properties to its Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection programs, which takes the combined portfolio to more than 3,400 hotels across 116 countries and, most importantly, it expands the number of places where holders of The Platinum Card® from American Express can use their credits.

This expansion coincides with the 35th anniversary of Fine Hotels + Resorts, and while American Express hasn’t published a full list of everything that has been added, it has named a handful of the new additions.

The new properties

American Express has grouped the examples it gave under its own 2026 travel trend labels, but as that’s little more than PR nonsense, here’s the stripped down information for the four properties Amex named:

• Selman Marrakech, Fine Hotels + Resorts (Marrakech, Morocco) – described as an equestrian retreat used for anniversaries and other milestone trips.
• ESPACIO Nagoya Castle, Fine Hotels + Resorts (Nagoya, Japan) – a property sitting beside the 17th-century Nagoya Castle.
• ROKI Collection Queenstown, Fine Hotels + Resorts (Queenstown, New Zealand) – Located on Lake Wakatipu, with helicopter tours, heli-skiing, hiking, boating, golf and wineries all cited as being accessible from the property.
• Casa Lucia, Melia Collection, The Hotel Collection (Buenos Aires, Argentina) – located in the Retiro neighborhood.

It would have been nice to have more than ~1% of the new properties listed in the press release, but a quick web search revealed a page which seems to list all 358 new properties.

Fine Hotels + Resorts benefits

Fine Hotels + Resorts now covers more than 1,900 properties, there’s no minimum stay, and every eligible booking made through American Express Travel comes with the following:

• Daily breakfast for two
• A $100 credit towards eligible charges (the type of credit varies by property)
• Guaranteed 4 p.m. check-out
• 12 p.m. check-in, when available
• A room upgrade on arrival, when available (certain room categories are not eligible)
• Complimentary Wi-Fi

Two pieces of the small print are worth knowing:

1. The breakfast benefit is valued at the greater of $60 per room per day or twice the price of the cheapest entrée, coffee or tea, and juice combination on the hotel’s breakfast menu, with anything above that charged to the room.
2. Where Wi-Fi is bundled into a mandatory property fee, American Express applies a daily credit for that amount at check-out instead.

It’s also worth keeping in mind that FHR stays are not viewed as third party bookings, so you can earn hotel points on your stays and enjoy any benefits to which you may be entitled courtesy of your elite status.

Note: benefits are applied per room, per stay, with a three-room limit, and back-to-back stays at the same property inside a 24-hour period count as a single stay for benefit purposes.

The Hotel Collection benefits

The Hotel Collection covers more than 1,400 properties, requires a stay of two consecutive nights or more, and offers a shorter list of benefits:

• A $100 credit towards eligible charges (the type of credit varies by property)
• 4 p.m. late check-out, when available
• 12 p.m. check-in, when available
• A room upgrade on arrival, when available (certain room categories are not eligible)

There’s no breakfast benefit and no Wi-Fi benefit, and the 4 p.m. check-out is subject to availability rather than guaranteed, which is the main difference between the two programs beyond the properties themselves.

Which cards get access

Access to the two programs isn’t identical, so it’s worth separating them out.

Fine Hotels + Resorts is open to:

US Consumer, Business and Corporate Platinum Card Members and Centurion® Members, along with Additional Platinum Card Members on Consumer Platinum, Business Platinum and Centurion accounts.

Companion Card Members on Consumer Platinum and Centurion accounts, Additional Business Gold and Additional Business Expense Card Members on Business Platinum and Centurion accounts, and holders of the Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card are all excluded.

The Hotel Collection is open to:

US Consumer and Business Gold Card Members, Platinum Card Members and Centurion Members, plus Additional Card Members on Consumer and Business Platinum accounts and on Consumer and Business Centurion accounts.

Holders of the Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card and the Delta SkyMiles Platinum American Express Card are excluded.

Which cards come with a credit

Only two cards carry a statement credit specifically for these bookings, and it’s the same credit on both:

• The Platinum Card® from American Express – Up to $600 Hotel Credit, offered as statement credits worth up to $300 twice a year (January to June, and July to December).
• The Business Platinum Card® from American Express – Up to $600 Hotel Credit, offered as statement credits worth up to $300 twice a year (January to June, and July to December).

The booking has to be prepaid, which American Express labels “Pay Now” rather than Pay Later or Pay at Hotel, it has to be made through American Express Travel, and it has to be paid for with the eligible Platinum Card.

There’s no enrollment required, Pay with Points transactions count, and Card Members still receive the underlying Fine Hotels + Resorts or Hotel Collection benefits on a booking that triggers the credit.

The cut-offs are 30 June for the first half of the year and 31 December for the second, and it’s the booking that has to be processed by those dates rather than the travel completed.

The $300 semi-annual cap applies across every Platinum Card on the account rather than per card, and the credit doesn’t extend to property fees, cancellation fees or charges made by the hotel to you.

Card Members holding the American Express® Gold Card or the American Express® Business Gold Card get access to The Hotel Collection, and therefore the $100 property credit that comes with every eligible booking, but no statement credit toward the cost of the stay.

Bottom line

Amex has now added 358 properties across its Fine Hotels + Resorts program and its Hotel Collection and that’s a significant number of properties. Holders of the Platinum Cards will probably be most pleased by this news as they now find themselves with a good number of new properties at which to burn their FHR/Hotel Collection credits.
