Quick thoughts

Just like Leading Hotels of the World, Preferred Hotels & Resorts isn’t a chain of properties like IHG, Hilton, Marriott, or Hyatt but a collection of mostly independent properties from across the world that use the Preferred Hotels umbrella as a marketing device.

There are currently over 650 hotels, resorts and residences that come under the Preferred Hotels & Resorts umbrella so with only 355 properties participating in this Amex offer, it’s possible that not all properties in the participating geographic regions are included in this deal, so make sure you book via the preferredhotels.com/amexoffer page to avoid accidentally making a reservation that won’t earn the rebate that’s being offered.

You’ll find that a number of well-known high end properties use the Preferred Hotels & Resorts branding (e.g. the Lodge at Pebble Beach, the Mark New York, the Stafford London, the Pink Sands Resort in the Bahamas, and the Post Ranch Inn at Big Sur) so hitting the offer’s spending target is unlikely to be challenging.

There are, however, also a significant number of reasonably priced properties participating in this deal (more so than in the Leading Hotels of the World deal), so it should be possible to book a 2-night stay at a nice property without paying considerably more than $500.

As far as targeting goes, this offer seems to be widely available (we can see it on most of our consumer and business Amex cards), so most people should see this offer in their accounts, but keep in mind that if you have access to Amex’s Fine Hotels and Resorts program (which also includes several of the properties participating in this deal), the benefits that you’ll receive by booking through that channel may outweigh the $100 saving that’s on offer here.

Check what both booking channels are offering before you hand over your credit card details.

Bottom line

American Express has launched a new targeted offer in which its offering a $100 statement credit to cardholders who pay for a stay at a Preferred Hotels & Resorts property before the middle of December.

If you plan to trigger this offer, make sure you book through the link that Amex has provided (to ensure that you don’t accidentally book a non-participating property), but also check what Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts is offering at the property you’re booking to make sure that you don’t miss out on a better deal.
