Finnair Plus is now running an Avios sale in which it’s offering bonuses of up to 50% for Avios purchases made through 22 May 2026, but even though this the best bonus we usually see Finnair offering, this is a sale you should be avoiding.
Key terms & conditions
- The offer is only available to Finnair Plus members who joined the program before 15 May 2026 and have a minimum balance of 50 Avios in their Finnair Plus account
- Transactions must be completed by 22 May (23:59:59 UTC+2) 2026 to qualify for a bonus as high as 50%
- A maximum of 200,000 Avios may be purchased during a calendar year (excluding bonuses)
- Purchased Avios are non-refundable and non-transferable
- Avios Points are issued subject to Finnair Plus Terms & Conditions
Full terms and conditions can be found on the sale page
The promotion
This is the promotion that we’re seeing in our accounts and as it doesn’t appear to be targeted, this will probably be the promotion that you see too.
- Buy 1,000 – 4,000 Avios and get no bonus
- Buy 5,000 – 19,000 Avios and get a 30% bonus
- Buy 20,000 – 49,000 Avios and get a 35% bonus
- Buy 50,000 – 79,000 Avios and get a 40% bonus
- Buy 80,000 – 200,000 Avios and get a 50% bonus
With this being a bonus-based promotion rather than a discount-based promotion, a maximum of 300,000 Avios are available in this sale.
The numbers
The way the promotion has been structured, the price per Avios gets better every time the bonus increases (obviously), but the price will also vary within each bonus band.
What this means is that you shouldn’t assume that if you’re buying enough Avios to trigger the 50% bonus that you’ll be buying Avios at the best price this sale is offering.
Here, for example, is what it would cost to buy 80,000 Avios in this sale:

And here is what it would cost to buy 200,000 Avios in this sale:

Buying 80,000 Avios with a 50% bonus would see you adding 120,000 Avios to your account at a cost of €1,760 which means that you would be paying ~1.47 Euro Cents per Avios (~1.71 US Cents/~1.28 UK pence)
Buying 200,000 Avios with a 50% bonus however, would see you adding 300,000 Avios to your account at a cost of €4,200 which means that you would be paying ~1.40 Euro Cents per Avios (~1.63 US Cents/1.22 UK pence)
That may not look like a very big difference in price, but when you’re buying a significant number of Avios it can add up.
Still, none of that really matters because this is a sale you should avoid.
Is this a good deal?
At this point this is where I usually say that the value on offer here comes down to what the Avios will be used for and when they’ll be used, but that’s not the case this time around because, a little unusually, this is one of two Avios sales that launched today and the other sale is considerably better.
Right now, Qatar Airways is also selling Avios (until next Monday) and in that sale, someone with a US-based Qatar Airways Privilege Club account can buy Avios from 1.53 cents each and someone with a UK-based Privilege Club account can buy Avios from 1.12 pence each, so why pay Finnair 1.63 cents or 1.22 pence per Avios?
The key here is to remember that Avios held in a Qatar Airways Privilege Club account can be transferred to all the other airlines that use Avios (often via the British Airways Executive Club) and they can be transferred back again too, so there’s no reason for most people to pay Finnair more than they’re paying Qatar Airways.
Sure, if you’re desperate to top up your Finnair account and there’s a reason why you can’t transfer Avios between airlines right now (perhaps there’s an IT glitch or perhaps you haven’t had your Avios accounts open for long enough), the I guess the Finnair sale is your only reasonable option right now, but that’s quite a niche position to find yourself in so, as I said, the Finnair sale is one that most people should be avoiding.

Bottom Line
Finnair has just launched an Avios sale that isn’t as good as the sale that Qatar Airways launched today, so as Avios bought through Qatar Airways can be transferred to all the other Avios using airlines, there’s little reason for most people to use the current Finnair sale.
