Amex has brought back a Mandarin Oriental offer that, I think, we haven’t seen since last fall, so if you’re planning a booking at a property included in the deal (not all MO properties are included) and if you have a targeted Amex card, now may be the time to lock in that booking.

Thoughts

Mandarin Oriental has well over 40 properties worldwide and only 12 are participating in this promotion, so that’s not exactly a broad selection from which to choose.

This version of the offer excludes the property in Boston and the original property in Hong Kong (which the last offer included), but it includes the Paris (Lutetia) location and the Hong Kong Landmark.

Considering the cost of a single night at a Mandarin Oriental property will almost always exceed $500 (and by quite a bit!), this should be a pretty easy offer to use for anyone looking to stay in one of the participating locations before 30 September 2026.

Overall, this looks to be a broadly targeted offer as I can see it on all my Membership Rewards cards (including business cards) and I’ve chosen to load this card to the Platinum Card® from American Express.

This is because even though I’m also seeing the offer on the Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express (which earns me 2 points/dollar on up to $50,000 of eligible spending per year and 1 point/dollar thereafter – terms apply), the Platinum Card doesn’t charge foreign transaction fees while the business card does, and I’d rather cut my earning rate to 1 point/dollar (terms apply) than pay fees that I should be avoiding.

Others, however, may be able to do better – if you’ve been targeted for this offer on your American Express® Green Card, for example, you can earn 3 points/dollar on most travel spending and that includes stays at hotels around the world (terms apply).

Bottom line

Amex has brought back a targeted offer in which travelers can earn a rebate of $100 on stays made at select Mandarin Oriental properties through 30 September 2026. If you’ve been targeted for this offer (I suspect most cardholders will see this in their accounts), make sure you save it to the card that will earn you the most points for your stay.
