Kimpton is the boutique hotel brand that has built itself up into a position in which it generates a great deal of loyalty and affection from its more frequent guests, and it’s the boutique hotel brand which has somehow pulled off the trick of maintaining this relationship despite being engulfed by the behemoth that is IHG.

Kimpton’s own loyalty program (Karma Rewards) remained separate from IHG Rewards for a few years following the boutique chain’s takeover by IHG but, in 2018, the two programs finally merged. Despite the merger, Kimpton managed to keep hold of a few of its special touches and one of these is the not-so-secret ” secret passwords” that the chain’s social media team occasionally releases and which guests are meant to use at check-in to open up an added benefit to be used on their stay.

This password has long been Kimpton’s way of engaging with its guests through less traditional channels but, for reasons that are more than a little obvious, 2020 saw a significant period of time in which there was no secret password to be had. A new password finally emerged in August (“Road Trip”), and now we have yet another secret password courtesy of the Kimpton Maa Lai Bangkok:

This password is valid through 14 February 2021 [HT: Loyalty Lobby] so if you have a Kimpton stay between now and then, saying the phrase “Lift Your Spirits” at the front desk when you arrive should generate some sort of reaction from the Kimpton employee who’s checking you in.

The benefit that guests are offered will vary (often significantly) from property to property and can range from a small piece of branded merchandise (e.g a Kimpton branded keyring) to something a lot more valuable (like complimentary parking, free breakfast or a food & beverage credit at the property). If you set your expectations low you won’t be disappointed but you may be nicely surprised.

Bottom Line

Kimpton’s new secret password has been revealed and it’s “Lift Your Spirits”. The password is valid through 14 February 2021 so be sure to repeat that phrase if you happen to be checking in to a Kimpton property on or before that date.

If anyone has a chance to use the latest secret password, please report back with news of what benefit you were offered and the name of the property at which you were staying.

      • The options were alcohol, free parking, and something else (food perhaps?). The alcohol kit was actually pretty cool. They gave us two sealable plastic bottles and several travel bottles of alcohol. The sealable bottles already had ingredients in them to make aged cocktails. One was a jalapeno margarita, and the sealable bottle had some dried jalapeno and other ingredients. You poured the travel size tequila bottles in, shake, let it sit for a few days, and you get an aged cocktail. The other was a vodka cocktail of some sort.
