Hyatt has been on a European announcement spree recently with its La Zambra property opening in Spain, news that the Inclusive Collection is coming to Bulgaria, and the opening of the new Thompson in Madrid. Now, that announcement spree continues with news that Hyatt is adding a new luxury UK property to its Destination brand.
Hyatt’s SCHLOSS Roxburghe Hotel & Golf Course
Today, Hyatt has announced that the SCHLOSS Roxburghe Hotel & Golf Course will be joining its ‘Destinations by Hyatt’ brand following a refresh of the property’s existing accommodations and an expansion project that will see the hotel add more rooms, suites and amenities.
The property sits approximately an hour’s drive from both Edinburgh and Newcastle airports, just outside the town of Kelso (known for its racecourse)…
… and north (and west) of the Northumberland National park.
The history of the property dates back to the 12th century (although the current property is nowhere near that old) and, we’re told, will have its grounds fully transformed into a “luxury retreat”.
The main historic house has 20 individual rooms and suites and the property’s capacity is being increased significantly by the construction of the ‘Estate House’ which will feature 58 rooms and suites.
12 cottages (complete with “personal kitchens, snug living areas and secluded patios”) are also expected to open in the grounds by “late 2022”, with a further 49 cottages scheduled to be built by the end of 2024.
A 6,458-square-foot (600-square-meter) spa facility with two saunas and outdoor infinity pool will be added to the estate’s existing state-of-the-art amenities (which include a purpose-built banqueting suite)…
…and by the time all the works are complete, the SCHLOSS Roxburghe Hotel & Golf Course will offer guests two restaurants, three bars, and two lounges that Hyatt says will “deliver home grown, locally sourced and seasonal Scottish produce”.
Here’s how Hyatt is describing the latest addition to its portfolio:
Poised to become the number one destination for country sport enthusiasts, the estate will immerse guests in the staggering natural beauty of the surrounding Scottish Borders through a wide range of sporting pursuits and activities. From bracing walks in the region’s remote wilderness, archery, tomahawk throwing and clay-pigeon shooting, to angling in the River Teviot, and of course, golfing the property’s Championship-grade golf course, guests will be invited to experience Scotland’s world-class country sport tradition with picturesque landscapes as their backdrop.
And this is how the property describes it’s existing rooms:
Grand open fireplaces grace the historic rooms of the manor house. Room heights of over 3 meters with decorative stucco on the ceilings and walls provide the rooms with unique character and highlight the history of the time-honoured building. Scottish tartans, colours and patterns combine with oak, natural stone and beautiful textiles to unite timeless elegance with contemporary design.
You’ll find more information about the SCHLOSS Roxburghe Hotel & Golf Course (as well as some spectacular views of the grounds and the surrounding scenery) on its webpage here.
As far as I can tell, no date has yet been provided for when the property will officially join the World of Hyatt (no date is given on the press release, the hotel isn’t appearing in searches on hyatt.com, and Hyatt’s pipeline information is no help either) but as a lot of the expansion work is already underway and as I don’t expect Hatt to wait until all the cottages are finished (in 2024), my best guess is that it will join at some point in the first half of 2023 (hopefully, the 1st quarter of 2023).
Bottom line
Hyatt is bringing its Destiantions by Hyatt brand to the UK as the SCHLOSS Roxburghe Hotel & Golf Course joins its portfolio. The property will join the World of Hyatt following renovations and some expansion work and while there’s no mention of what World of Hyatt category this property will be added too, I think it’s reasonably safe to assume that it will join in category 7 or 8.

Beautiful existing hotel… just about to be ruined by an unbelievably ugly extension. Amazed they’d ever be granted permission to build something that bad right next to the current hotel
I have to agree. I’m not sure how (based on the rendering) anyone can think that the new building is in keeping with the existing property.
