Back in June Emirates replaced one of its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft on its Dubai-London Gatwick route with an Airbus A380 “Super Jumbo” giving Emirates their second A380 on that route. At the time of introduction the A380 was configured as a 3-class aircraft (First, Business, Economy) and was scheduled to be downgraded to a 2-class aircraft (Business, Economy) from 1 January 2016.

In July, Emirates’ seemingly excessive need for tinkering kicked in as they decided that two A380s and one 777-300ER made things look a bit out of kilter…..so they announced that a further A380 (configured as a 3-class aircraft) would replace the last 777-300ER from 1 January 2016.

For those of you not keeping up that means that, from 1 January 2016, Dubai-Gatwick becomes a 100% A380 route being served by two 3-class aircraft and one 2-class aircraft.

But Emirates wasn’t finished there.

Now, after their need for tinkering clearly got the better of them once again, Emirates has revised its plans for the Gatwick A380s and decided that having two different configurations of A380 flying Dubai-Gatwick just won’t do – so they’ve reassigned one of their other 3-class A380s to fly the route from 1 January.

Right – so now we can expect to see three Emirates A380s (all configured as 3-class aircraft) flying the Dubai-Gatwick route from 1 January 2016.

So where is the other 3-class A380 coming from?

Answer: Manchester (UK)

Dubai-Manchester will now be served by a Boeing 777-300ER, a 2- class A380 (that was originally intended for LGW) and a 3-class A380. That’s two different planes and three different configurations – I can’t see Emirates’ almost compulsive need to tinker allowing that to stand 🙂
