For most readers, Avianca is an airline whose primary purpose is one of an airline whose loyalty program offers a currency that can be used to book Star Alliance premium cabin awards at a reasonable cost. However, just in case you happen to be looking to earn status in Avianca’s LifeMiles program, the latest news being emailed out to members may be of interest.

It was early as mid-April of this year when Avianca announced that it would be extending all elite statuses through 31 January 2022 and that it would be reducing its elite status qualification requirements for 2020. Now the airline is emailing members of its LifeMiles loyalty program with the news that all qualifying flights taken in October, November, and December of this year, will count towards the elite status qualification criteria in 2021.

These are the standard LifeMiles elite status qualification criteria…

…and, essentially, LifeMiles members now have 15 months to meet these requirements rather than the standard 12 months.

It seems a little strange for Avianca to be emailing out this news when October is almost over (I received the email a little under an hour ago) but as I’m not a particularly active member of LifeMiles, there’s a possibility that others (more active members) were informed in a more timely manner.

This news can also be found on this LifeMiles page.

Bottom Line

If you’re a fan of the LifeMiles program and are looking to earn or retain status in 2021 you now have more time in which to earn the miles/segments and the qualifying dollars that you need.
