Quick thoughts

Amex offers for Alaska Airlines spending aren’t particularly common (the last one we wrote about launched over a year ago and ended in September 2025), so it’s nice to see this one appear our accounts this morning.

Overall there’s mostly good news here.

The main bit of good news is that the $400 of spending that’s needed to trigger the $80 rebate doesn’t have to be made in a single transaction, so multiple flight bookings that add up to at least $400 will activate the rebate.

The second bit of good news here is that unlike some Alaska Airlines offers that Amex has published in the past, this one is triggered by spending made directly with the airline rather than through Amex Travel, so you don’t have to deal with an intermediary.

The final bit of good news is we’re seeing this offer on all our Amex cards (consumer and business) so a lot of readers should have been targeted for this.

There is also, however, one thing to keep in mind.

In the past, we’ve seen Amex publish deals in which fare upgrades, seat selection fees and baggage fees could all contribute to the offer’s spending target. With this offer, however, these have been specifically excluded,

Which card?

Clearly, having it targetd to the Platinum Card® from American Express would be best as that would allow you to trigger the offer while earning the 5 points/dollar on spending made directly with airlines that the card offers (up to $500,000 per year and 1 point/dollar thereafter – terms apply).

Failing that, the American Express® Green Card (soon to be the American Express® Classic Green Card) would be a good option as that card earns 3 points/dollar on most travel spending (terms apply).

If neither of those is an option for you then the Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express would do a reasonable job as it earns 2 Membership Rewards Points/dollar on all eligible spending up to a limit of $50,000/year and 1 point/dollar thereafter (terms apply).

If that card isn’t an option either, you’re playing the miles and points game all wrong:)

Note: All information about the American Express® Green Card has been collected independently by Traveling For Miles. The American Express® Green Card is not currently available through Traveling For Miles.

Bottom line

If you have plans to spend $400 or more with Alaska Airlines in the next three months, you should check your online Amex accounts to see if you’ve been targeted for an offer that could earn you a $80 statement credit.

Make sure you read the terms and conditions of the offer carefully before you hand over your credit card details as there are a few restrictions attached to this deal, and make sure you don’t forget that only airfare spending made directly with the airline is guaranteed to count towards the offer’s spending target.
