This the second Provisions space American has opened, following the original version at Charlotte Douglas in August 2025.
American Airlines has opened a Provisions by Admirals Club space at JFK Terminal 8, a grab-and-go concept which, we’re told, is designed for passengers who want quick access to food and drinks without sitting down in a traditional lounge.
This the second Provisions space American has opened, following the original version at Charlotte Douglas in August 2025.
The details
The new space takes up approximately 3,700 square feet and located in Concourse B between gates 12 and 14. It sits alongside the Admirals Club in Concourse C rather than replacing it, and is designed to give passengers with tight connections (or just limited time at the airport) somewhere to pick up some food and a coffee without having to navigate a full-size lounge.
The centrepiece is a dedicated barista bar, described as a first for American Airlines, serving Lavazza hot and cold coffee drinks prepared to order. A separate self-serve station offers canned and bottled drinks for passengers who don’t have time to wait.
As the concept suggests, the food on offer is “grab-and-go”, with high-top tables available if you want a quick bite before heading to the gate.
Breakfast runs until 11am and covers pastries, snack mixes, yogurt, fruit, and some more substantial hot options.
From 11am until close, the menu shifts to sandwiches, salads, snacks, sweet options, and more complete meals. Vegetarian options are available throughout the day and as is the case in the full-service Admirals Clubs, all food and non-alcoholic beverages are complimentary.
We’re also told that alongside the food and drinks that this space will offer, there’s also an on-site American Airlines representative available to help with travel queries, rebooking, and similar needs. The press release was clear that this was “a representative” (singular) so this won’t be taking over from the help you can get in the full-service lounges at JFK.
Access
Access follows the same rules as a standard Admirals Club. Domestic travelers can enter via Admirals Club membership, qualifying Oneworld status, or the Citi®/AAdvantage® Executive credit card. AAdvantage status members can access it when traveling on qualifying international flights. A One Day Pass is also available for $79 or 7,900 AAdvantage miles, valid for 24 hours.
Thoughts
The concept seems sensible enough at a busy connecting hub (although I would have thought that this would have worked better at a smaller airport like LaGuardia than somewhere like JFK).
The barista bar sounds promising, but we’ll have to see if this is a genuine barista experience or just someone pushing the same buttons on a self-service coffee machine that any traveler could press (if it’s the latter, it will just slow people down rather than help speed their way through the terminal).
While I’m being a little sceptical, I should also point out that that this whole “grab and go” mini-lounge concept isn’t exactly new. We covered United Airlines opening a very similar space at Denver International Airport back in November 2022, under the name United Club Fly.
Same idea – grab-and-go food, a proper coffee bar (this one serves illy rather than Lavazza), a few seats, self-scan entry – and that was nearly four years ago. Since then (and as far as I can tell), United has opened just one further location, in Houston.
Two locations in four years is not the rollout of a concept that’s setting the aviation world alight, and while American appears to have opened the same number of these mini-lounges in a considerably shorter time (approximately 11 months), it’s worth keeping that in mind before getting too excited about American’s version.
Whether passengers are actually finding these spaces as useful as airlines hope, or whether they’re mainly a way to keep a few more members happy without the expense of building full-size lounges, remains to be seen.
Having said that (and to be a little less sceptical and harsh), it’s worth noting that Concourse B at JFK doesn’t actually have an Admirals Club at all (there are three premium lounges in the are – the Greenwich, Soho, and Chelsea Lounges – but they’re a very different thing), so reach the nearest Admirals Club, passengers have to get to Concourse C and that’s not a short walk.
For Admirals Club members departing from or connecting through Concourse B who don’t want to make that journey, this new “Provisions” space will probably be popular.
Bottom line
American Airlines has opened a Provisions by Admirals Club grab-and-go space in JFK Terminal 8, with a barista bar, hot and cold food, and an on-site travel representative. It’s not a lounge in the conventional sense, but (hopefully) a useful addition for passengers who have limited time to grab some food and who and need to move quickly through one of American’s busier airports.
