October was a busy month for United Airlines from a route scheduling point of view with the airline announcing 22 daily flights to London and 10 new flights and five new destinations for Europe and the Middle East. One of those new destinations was Amman, Jordan, and today United’s new route between Washington D.C and Amman finally went on sale.
United’s route to Jordan
From 5 May 2022, United will offer a new service between Washington, D.C. and Amman, Jordan on the following schedule:
UA525 IAD 22:00 – 15:55+1 day AMM (Mon, Thu & Sat)
UA526 AMM 01:15 – 06:30 IAD (Mon, Wed & Sat)
The route will be operated by United’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners and, amazingly, these will be refurbished Dreamliners with United’s best all-aisle-access Business Class cabin.
The Dreamliners operating between Washington D.C. and Amman will offer the following cabin configuration:
- 28 Polaris Business Class seats
- 21 Premium Plus (Premium Economy) seats
- 36 Economy Plus seats
- 158 Standard Economy Class seats
The Business Class seats are clearly the best seats on the aircraft but its good to see Premium Plus seating also offered on this route as with 38″ of pitch and 19″ of width, the Premium Plus seats will offer the most economical way of getting to Amman with an adequate amount of personal space.
In the Economy Class cabin, the 34″ of pitch that the Economy Plus seats offer will make them considerably more comfortable than the regular Economy Class seats (31″ of pitch), but with both seat-types only being a little over 17″ wide, neither is going to be comfortable for a person of size.
Fares
I can’t claim to have done any extensive research on the fares that United is offering on this route but a cursory glance would suggest that Economy Class fares start at around $695, that Premium Economy fares start at around $996, and that Business Class fares start at around $3,290 for roundtrip travel.
Business Class awards are currently available on this new route (it looks like United has opened up 2 Business Class awards on multiple flights) and appear to be priced from 75,000 miles + taxes for one-way travel.
That’s not fantastic for a trip of approximately 12,000 miles but it’s also not terrible considering that you at least get United’s best Business Class seat on this route.
Bottom Line
United Airlines has opened up bookings for its new Washington D.C. – Amman service that will be launching on 5 May 2022. Business Class awards are currently available at 150,000 miles + taxes/fees for roundtrip travel and as United is offering its best Business Class seats on this route, those awards don’t look too bad.
