The world may be battling new strains of the virus, lockdowns are still in force around the world, and the US may be about to introduce significantly stricter travel restrictions than it has in place right now, but that doesn’t appear to have dampened spirits at Qatar Airways.
In its latest route update, Qatar Airways has confirmed that it has now scheduled the resumption of yet another of the US routes that it suspended early last year (its 12th US destination), and the airline has also said that it will significantly increase frequencies on a further six of the routes that it currently operates between Doha and the US.
Qatar Airways Returns To Atlanta
From 1 June 2021, Qatar Airways will return to Atlanta and will go back to being a thorn in Delta’s side. The currently published schedule shows the airline operating 4 weekly flights on the following schedule…
QR755 DOH 08:10 – 16:15 ATL (Mon, Tue, Wed & Fri)
QR756 ATL 19:55 – 16:30+1 day DOH (Mon, Tue, Wed & Fri)
…with the route initially set to be operated by a mix of 777-200LR and A350-900 aircraft before the A350 takes over all the flights later in the month. Importantly (for readers of this blog), all the aircraft scheduled to operate on this route appear to be equipped with the airline’s Qsuites Business Class cabin.
Qatar Airways Boosts Existing Services To The US
Starting in March, Qatar Airways will begin increasing the number of flights that it offers on 7 routes between Doha and the United States. These are what those frequency increases look like:
Chicago
Chicago was one of the few US cities to have received service from Qatar Airways for most of 2020 with a minimum of 7 weekly flights operating between Doha and Chicago for most of the year. In November, Qatar Airways added two more weekly flights to this route, and now, from 4 March 2021, the route will be operated 10x/week.
Here’s the planned schedule for March:
QR723 DOH 02:00 – 07:50 ORD (Thu, Fri & Sun 777-300 service)*
QR725 DOH 08:00 – 13:50 ORD (Daily A350-1000 service)
QR724 ORD 01:30 – 23:35 DOH (Mon, Fri & Sat 777-300 service)*
QR726 ORD 19:10 – 17:15+1 day DOH (Daily A350-1000 service)
*New flights are the Thursday (outbound) and on Friday (inbound).
All flights between Doha and Chicago (including the new flights) are operated by aircraft offering the Qsuite Business Class cabin.
Dallas/Fort Worth
The Doha – Dallas/Fort Worth route has been one of the more resilient of Qatar Airways’ routes with the airline operating a daily service since the end of June last year. From 2 March, however, this route will be getting a further three weekly flights taking the total number of weekly flights to 10.
Here’s what the proposed schedule looks like for March:
QR731 DOH 01:40 – 09:50 DFW (Daily)*
QR729 DOH 07:55 – 15:30 DFW (Daily)
QR732 DFW 00:35 – 23:00 DOH (Daily)*
QR730 DFW 18:10 – 16:40+1 day DOH (Daily)
*New flights
Qatar Airways operates an A350-1000 with the Qsuite Business Class cabin on the daily service and is set to operate a Boeing 777-200LR on the new flights being added in March – both aircraft offer the Qsuite Business Class cabin.
Houston
Qatar Airways restarted its route between Doha and Houston last September and has been offering up to four flights per week ever since. From 14 March 2021, however, Qatar Airways will be adding a further three weekly flights and will once again offer a daily service on this route.
Here’s what the April schedule currently looks like:
QR713 DOH 08:05 – 16:05 IAH (Daily)
QR714 IAH 18:05 – 16:40+1 day DOH (Daily)
This route will continue to be operated with an A350-1000 aircraft (complete with the Qsuite Business Class cabin) even after the extra flights are added.
Miami
Qatar Airways resumed service to Miami on 14 November 2020 and has been operating 2x/week ever since. From 3 July 2021 however, a third weekly flight will be added leaving the planned schedule looking like this:
QR777 DOH 08:10 – 17:15 MIA (Tue, Thu & Sat)
QR778 MIA 19:55 – 16:55+1 day DOH (Tue, Thu & Sat)
As things stand, this route is operated by a Boeing 777-300ER but from 1 July an A350-900 takes over the duties between Doha and Miami and will continue to offer passengers the Qsuite Business Class cabin.
San Francisco
At the end of the first week in October last year, Qatar Airways confirmed that it would be starting service between Doha and San Francisco (for the first time) on 15 December. Since the launch date, Qatar Airways has been operating this route 4x/week but a new flight will be added in March, and by 2 July 2021 Qatar Airways will offer a daily service between Doha and San Francisco.
Here’s the proposed schedule for July:
QR737 DOH 08:05 – 13:50 SFO (Daily)
QR738 SFO 15:25 – 16:40+1 day DOH (Daily)
As things stand, the schedules are showing this route being operated by a mix of A350-900 and A350-1000 aircraft but I suspect that it will be the -1000 variant that will end up being the primary aircraft for this route. Regardless, for most passengers this won’t make too much of a difference and from a Business Class passenger point of view, it will make no difference at all as both types of A350 offer the Qsuite Business Class cabin.

Seattle
At the beginning of December, Qatar Airways announced that it would be launching a new service between Doha and Seattle in the Spring of this year and, at the beginning of this month, the airline announced that it was bringing forward the route launch to 29 January (a week from today). Now Qatar Airways has said that while the route will launch as planned with flights operating 4x/week, the route will offer a daily service by 2 July 2021.
Here’s the proposed schedule for July:
QR719 DOH 08:10 – 12:20 SEA (Daily)
QR720 SEA 16:40 – 16:40+1 day DOH (Daily)
When it launches next week, the Doha – Seattle route will be operated by a Boeing 777-300ER but by the time July comes along, it will be an A350-900 that Qatar Airways will be operating on this route – both aircraft will offer the Qsuite Business Class cabin.
Note: The July schedules don’t yet appear to have the 6th and 7th weekly flights loaded but these should appear over the coming days.
Bottom Line
Qatar Airways plans to restart its service between Doha and Atlanta from 1 June and starting in March the airline will begin to ramp up services on a further six of its routes to the United States. However, with a new administration in the White House and with suggestions being made that the US will impose stricter testing requirements as well as quarantine measures on most international travelers, it will be interesting to see if Qatar Airways can follow through with these plans or if it will be forced to scale them back. Watch this space!
