Qatar Airways has been the only big Middle Eastern carrier that has kept a number of services operating to the United States throughout the current crisis and now, as the airline enters an eight week period during which it hopes to get as many as 70% of its routes back online, it has announced plans to resume flights to four major US cities.
As things stand, Qatar Airways operates services to just two US destinations – Chicago O’Hare and Dallas/Fort Worth but, starting from today, more US cities will be reappearing in the airline’s schedules. Qatar Airways will be landing a Qsuite-equipped Airbus A350-1000 at New York’s JFK airport at 3:00 pm local time this afternoon and flights to Boston, Los Angeles, and Washington Dulles will resume from 1 July 2020.
Here’s what you need to know about the route reboots and the routes which have never stopped operating:
Boston
From 1 July, Qatar Airways will offer five weekly flights between Boston and Doha and it plans to increase that frequency to daily from 1 August. Here’s the current schedule from 1 July:
QR743 DOH 08:00 – 14:15 BOS (Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat & Sun)
QR744 BOS 22:00 – 16:55+1 day DOH (Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat & Sun)
This service is scheduled to be operated by an Airbus A350-900 which has been fitted with the Qsuite Business Class cabin.
Chicago
Qatar Airways continues to offer a daily nonstop service between Chicago O’Hare and Doha on the following schedule:
QR725 DOH 07:45 – 13:45 ORD (Daily)
QR726 ORD 18:50 – 16:20+1 day DOH (Daily)
This service is currently being operated by an Airbus A350-1000 complete with the Qsuite Business Class cabin.
Dallas/Fort Worth
The Dallas/Fort Worth to Doha route currently operates with 5 weekly flights but Qatar Airways is adding a further two weekly flights from 23 June to make the service daily. This is what the currently published schedule looks like from 23 June:
QR729 DOH 07:55 – 15:30 DFW (Daily)
QR730 DFW 18:10 – 16:40+1 day DOH (Daily)
Qatar Airways operates an A350-1000 with the Qsuite Business Class cabin on its Dallas-Doha route.
New York (JFK)
There’s a service between New York JFK and Doha today, 19 June, but flights won’t restart properly until 22 June when the service goes daily. From 2 July Qatar Airways will be adding a further 3 weekly flights to its New York – Doha route taking the weekly total of flights up to 10. Once all 10 weekly flights are operating, this is what the schedule will look like:
QR703 DOH 01:15 – 08:00 JFK (Tue, Thu & Sat)
QR701 DOH 08:15 – 15:00 JFK (Daily)
QR702 JFK 02:45 – 22:00 DOH (Wed, Fri & Sun)
QR702 JFK 21:00 – 16:15+1 day DOH (Daily)
The New York JFK route is operated by a combination of A350-900 and A350-1000 aircraft both of which offer the Qsuite cabin.
Los Angeles
Los Angeles will see Qatar Airways services resume from 1 July with three weekly flights. Frequencies are set to increase to 5 weekly flights from 17 July and a further increase to 6 weekly flights is scheduled from 1 August. This is what the schedule looks like from 1 July:
QR739 DOH 07:35 – 13:35 LAX (Mon, Wed & Fri)
QR740 LAX 15:35 – 17:05+1 day DOH (Mon, Wed & Fri)
Los Angeles was once served by one of the oldest aircraft in the Qatar Airways fleet (a 777LR), but it will be a considerably newer Airbus A350-1000 (with Qsuites) that Qatar Airways will use on this route when it restarts next month.
Washington, D.C.
From 1 July, Qatar Airways will offer five weekly flights between Washington DC and Doha with flight frequencies increasing from 1 August at which point a daily service will be offered. Here’s the schedule as it stands:
QR707 DOH 08:40 – 15:35 IAD (Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat & Sun)
QR708 IAD 20:25 – 15:55+1 day DOH (Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat & Sun)
An Airbus A350-900 is scheduled to operate between DC and Doha when the route resumes next month and, according to the schedules, this will be a refurbished aircraft with the Qsuite Business Class cabin.
Bottom Line
Qatar Airways is one of the most highly regarded airlines in the world and with the Qsuites it offers one of the two best Business Class products around, so news that the airline is restarting services to Boston, New York, LA, and DC should be music to frequent flyer ears.
Every Qatar Airways route to the US is operated by aircraft fitted with the airline’s acclaimed Qsuite Business Class cabin and, at a time where personal space on an aircraft has never felt more important, the privacy and seclusion this cabin gives individual passengers will probably make it even more popular than it was before…so let’s hope for a good sale!
good for those nationals returning to their countries, Bad for US citizens as no countries welcome Americans.
Any time resuming MIA-DOH?
