IHG One Rewards has an ongoing promotion that’s worth reminding you about as it may be able to save you some points on the next award stay that you make. It’s simple: You’ll get 15% off the number of points needed to book a stay at a property that IHG considers to be new or renovated.

Quick thoughts

At the time of writing, the participating properties can be viewed by region – Americas, China, Europe, East Asia & Pacific, and India, Middle East, & Africa – and by the end date of the promotion for earn property.

At any point in time, it looks like the furthest out this promotional discount can be used is 6 months, with the latest additions to the bookable hotels list offering 15% off through 31 December 2026.

There are a few things that need to be noted with this promotion.

Firstly, this is a discount promotion and not a rebate promotion and that’s good news. Why? Because it means that the 15% is taken off the cost of the booking at the time that you’re making the booking, so this deal could allow you to book properties for which you, otherwise, may not have had enough points (rebate promotions require you to have enough points in your account to make a booking at the full asking rate before you’re given some points back).

The rate is discounted before you pay – click or tap to enlarge.

Secondly, the terms and conditions contain these two lines …

  • The Offer is for a 15% discount off the number of points needed to book a stay using points only.
  • This Offer does not include a discount for Points & Cash reward night redemptions.

… but that doesn’t appear to be true.

Here, for example is what a Points + Cash booking looks like at the Kimpton Era Midtown New York and, as you should be able to see, the points element is clearly discounted (although the cash element is not).

Thirdly, keep in mind that this is an ongoing promotion, so there will be times when the properties on offer are supremely dull (mostly just Holiday Inns in the middle of nowhere), and there will be times when you’ll find a few properties that look a lot more interesting (e.g. there are a couple of US Kimptons participating right now).

The properties that you’ll find participating at any given point will depend entirely on IHG’s pipeline.

Three US Kimpton properties are participating in this promotion right now.

Finally, keep in mind that this promotion could be especially useful to anyone looking to use a free night certificate that comes with one of the IHG co-branded credit cards.

The free night certificates offered by the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card and the IHG One Rewards Premier Business Credit Card are worth up to 40,000 points each and while IHG allows holders of these certificates to top them up when booking a property costing more than the certificate is worth, the 15% discount that’s on offer in this promotion may bring down the cost of a property that you’re looking to book to within range of your free night certificate. You may not need to use any of your hard earned IHG One rewards points at all.

Bottom line

If you’re hoping to save some points on your next IHG booking (and who isn’t?), make sure that you take a look at the list of participating properties in this ongoing promotion to see if any of the properties mentioned would fit in with your plans.

Sometimes the list will be dominated by some of the more uninspiring properties in the IHG portfolio, but we know that the IHG pipeline has quite a few Kimpton, InterContinental, Indigo and Crowne Plaza properties within it, so there will be times when this promotion should be able to save you quite a few points on more than just a routine, run-of-the-mill stay.
