IHG is currently running a sale in which it is offering up to 30% off the published best flexible rate at participating properties in the Asia Pacific region which takes in Southeast Asia, Japan, South Korea, Oceania and most of IHG’s resorts in luxury destinations like Fiji and French Polynesia.

- For bookings made seven (7) days or more in advance of check-in in this Promotion, the Advance Saver Rate will be applicable for bookings at participating hotels that offer this rate. Bookings must be made at least seven (7) days in advance of check in date at the selected participating hotel unless otherwise determined in accordance with the individual hotel’s policies, and no prepayment is required for bookings under the Advance Saver Rate.
- The applicable advance booking period for the Advance Saver Rate may vary by participating hotel based on each hotel’s policy. Bookings can be cancelled or changed free of charge more than thirty (30) days prior to the check-in date.
- If the booking is cancelled within 30 days of your check-in date, a one-night charge will be applied to your credit card. Quick thoughts
There are four key things to recognize here:
Firstly, the discounts on offer are based on the best flexible rate which is often not the cheapest rate that IHG publishes and that means that the impressive headline saving of 30% will not always apply.
Secondly, the sale rates are actually a little flexible which makes a nice change.
Often, the sale rates are based on the flexible rate but don’t offer any flexibility. In this sale, however, you appear to be able to cancel without penalty up to 30 days before your check-in date.
Thirdly, not all properties across the Asia Pacific are participating (I’ve already noticed that the InterContinental Sydney seems to be missing and the Six Senses properties aren’t participating either), so make sure that you check the participating hotels list if there’s a specific property at which you wish to stay and save.
Finally, to be on the safe side, use the sale page to search for deals as the main IHG.com site doesn’t appear to offer the ‘Advanced Saver Member Exclusive’ rate option.
Selecting the “best available” rate on IHG.com sasults, but why take the chance?
Overall, this looks promising. I haven’t had the chance (or the time) to do many in-depth searches to see what all the savings are like or what’s available across the Asia Pacific region, but this is a much better sale than the Europe sale that IHG launched back in June (15% discount) and there are some very good IHG properties participating across Asia Pacific (InterContinental Halong Bay, the InterContinental Perth, the InterContinental Bora Bora, and the InterContinental Osaka are just a few examples), so that bodes well.
