I’m a little late with this news but better late than never.
Towards the end of last month Delta unveiled its refreshed Sky Club at Washington’s Ronald Reagan Airport (DCA) and, although the airline hasn’t exactly gone overboard with the images it has provided, it has released a fair amount of information detailing what flyers can expect when they visit.
The refurbished lounge offers 9,000 square feet of space (1,800 square feet more than the old lounge) and, according to Delta, has been designed with features for which Sky Clubs are known as well along with “special touches inspired by Washington, D.C.”
Among the new lounge’s “highlights” Delta lists:
- Striking lighting features (including a “cherry-blossom inspired” chandelier), modern finishes and leather furnishings
- An open seating plan which has been “designed to maximize the views of the runway and the Potomac River”
- A menu put together by Marjorie Meek-Bradley which will be rotated seasonally – apparently Marjorie is a local DC chef and former Top Chef finalist.
- A full-service bar which now has additional seating. The bar offers seasonal cocktails, an “exclusive all-American whiskey menu” with 15 choices and wine selected by Delta’s Master Sommelier Andrea Robinson
- Artwork inspired by DC and the surrounding areas (“the Beltway)
- Wi-Fi and easily accessible power outlets “at nearly every seat”.
The redesigned Sky Club at Washington’s Reagan airport is just part of a broader lounge overhaul that Delta is currently undertaking. We’ve already seen a renovated Sky Club open at Newark, we’re expecting a new Sky Club to open in Phoenix later this year and Austin has been promised a new Sky Club in 2019.
Overall it’s hard to tell just from pictures how good or bad the new Sky Club in Washington D.C. is but it certainly looks good. I like that Delta specifically mentions an open seating plan with views of the runway as that should mean a lounge with a lot of natural light and, hopefully, not too many chairs crowded together – two things I look for in a good lounge.
Has anyone visited the renovated Sky Club at Washington Reagan yet? If you have, what did you think of it and how does it compare to the old one (other than just being bigger)?
