Flying Blue is running another mileage sale and depending on where you’re based (or possibly how Flying Blue is targeting this), the deals on offer may vary. Some accounts appear to be targeted for a 80% bonus while others are seeing a 45% discount on offer.
It should be noted that Flying Blue miles can also be generated by transfers from all four big US credit card programs (Amex, Chase, Capital One and Citi), but when you see the price you can buy miles at in this sale, a transfer may not appear too tempting.
Key info
My account has been targeted for a 45% discount so this is what I see:
- Sale runs through 23:59 CET+1 on 28 July 2026
- A maximum discount of 45% is on offer
- Elite members can purchase a maximum of 300,000 Miles
- Non-elites can receive a maximum bonus of 100,000 miles
Full terms and conditions can be found on the sale page.

The sale
As mentioned, it looks like this promotion is targeted, so you may see a different version to the sale that my account is showing. This is what I’ve been offered:
- Buy 2,000 miles and get no discount
- Buy 4,000 – 12,000 miles and get a 35% discount
- Buy 14,000 – 28,000 miles and get a 40% discount
- Buy 30,000 – 100,000 miles and get a 45% discount
If you’ve been targeted for an 80% bonus, this is what you’re likely to see:
- Buy 2,000 miles and get no bonus
- Buy 4,000 – 10,000 miles and get a 50% bonus
- Buy 12,000 – 22,000 miles and get a 60% bonus
- Buy 24,000 – 100,000 miles and get a 80% bonus

The numbers
Whether you’re targeted for a bonus or a discount, the best price on offer won’t change. The only downside to the discount offer is that you’re limited to receiving 100,000 miles. With a bonus offer you can receive 180,000 miles.
The best price on offer will, however, change depending on where your Flying Blue account is registered. These are the prices that I’m seeing:
- US accounts – 1.69 cents/mile
- Euro accounts – 1.39 euro cents/mile (~1.59 cents/mile)
- UK accounts – 1.23 pence/mile (~1.65 cents/mile)
To get these rates, you’ll have to buy at least 24,000 miles (if you have the bonus offer) or 30,000 miles (if you have the discount offer).
Is this a good deal?
As always, no one should be buying miles without a plan for how they’re going to be used in the near to medium term (our golden rule applies) but, if you can find awards that work for you, you’re unlikely to be able to buy Flying Blue miles any cheaper then this in the near future.
It’s also worth pointing out one further thing:
Quite a few people value some of the transferable currencies that can be converted to Flying Blue Miles (e.g. Amex Membership Rewards Points) at more than what Flying Blue Miles are being sold for in this sale so, if you’re one of those people and you were considering a points transfer to Flying Blue, it may be a good idea to think again.
Flying Blue employs dynamic award pricing (which can work in a traveler’s favor when cash prices are low) and it loves to add surcharges to its awards which have to be taken into account.
Flying Blue Promo awards offer the best opportunity to extract maximum value out of any Flying Blue miles purchased in a sale like this one, and right now there are some very interesting deals available and quite a large number of Promo Awards on offer.
Historically, we have seen Flying Blue offer 50% discounts and 100% bonuses, but we haven’t seen one of those for some time (I don’t think we’ve seen one in the past year), so this looks like in may be the new best rate at which to buy Flying Blue miles.
That doesn’t mean that this is a great deal, it just means that this is probably the best deal we’re likely to see.
At 1.69 cents/mile, for readers in the US, this may or may not work for you depending on the cabins you’re booking and the surcharges from/to your chosen airport.
At 1.39 Euro cents or 1.59 US cents per miles for readers in Europe, this looks like a respectable level at which to buy miles but, again, I cannot stress enough how this will only ever be a good deal if you can be sure to use the miles in the short term.
If you’re looking to travel now (or soon) and can see that awards are available to book for cabins and dates that suit you, do the maths (don’t forget to include any surcharges) and, if the maths works in your favor, buy as many miles as you need because they’re unlikely to get any cheaper any time soon (that’s not a guarantee!)

Use the right credit card
Flying Blue mileage sales are processed by Points.com so that eliminates the scope to earn a travel/flight/airline bonus by using a credit card that offers bonus points for shopping in one of those categories (e.g. the Platinum Card® from American Express – terms apply).
With that option closed off, this makes this sale a good opportunity to use a credit card on which you’re working towards a strong welcome bonus.
If you’re not working towards a card’s welcome bonus, the Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express which offers 2 points/dollar on the first $50,000 of purchases in a year (1 point/dollar thereafter – terms apply) would be one of the better options to use.
Bottom line
Do your due diligence and you shouldn’t wrong in this sale.
- Check that awards are actually available on the route you’d like to fly and on dates you can fly.
- Check how many miles you need.
- Check what taxes and surcharges Flying Blue will impose on the award booking.
- Work out the actual full cost of buying miles and booking the award.
Only if the deal still looks good after all of the above should you buy Flying Blue Miles in this sale … otherwise just move on.
