American Airlines has just announced that it will be offering ten more routes out of Austin by the end of the summer with seven of the new routes set to be operated year-round and three of the routes to be operated on a seasonal basis.

American Airlines Austin Expansion

American Airlines says that starting in May, it will begin launching new routes out of Austin as well as bringing back a few routes that it has operated in the past. The airline hasn’t gone as far as to tell us which routes are new and which are returning but in the grand scheme of things, that’s not particularly important. What *is* important is that Austin’s American Airlines flyers will soon have considerably more destinations that they can travel to (non-stop) on their preferred airline.

Year-Round Routes

Las Vegas: Route commences 6 May 2021 and will be operated 1x/day to 3 June at which point it will be offered 2x/day.

Nashville: Route commences 6 May 2021 and will be operated 1x/day to 2 July at which point it will be offered 2x/day.

New Orleans: Route commences 6 May 2021 and will be operated 1x/day

Orlando: Route commences 6 May 2021 and will be operated 1x/day

Raleigh-Durham: Route commences 2 July 2021 and will be operated 1x/day to 17 August at which point it will be offered 2x/day.

Tampa: Route commences 3 June 2021 and will be operated 1x/day

Washington D.C (IAD): Route commences 17 August 2021 and will be operated 2x/day

Seasonal Routes

Aspen: This route will be operated on Saturdays only between 5 June and 4 September 2021.

Destin-Fort Walton Beach: This route will be operated on Saturdays only between 5 June and 14 August 2021.

Los Cabos: This route will be operated on Saturdays only between 5 June and 14 August 2021.*

*The route to/from Los Cabos (SJD) is an extension of the route that has been operating through the winter season.

At the time of writing American Airlines hasn’t loaded these routes into its booking schedules, but if things progress as they usually do we can probably expect to see flights go on sale by Monday 15 March.

American Airlines, Alaska Airlines & JetBlue Offer Austin Codeshares

As well as offering 10 new routes out of Austin, American’s partnership with Alaska Airlines will see its flyers able to earn and burn miles (as well as enjoy elite status benefits) on a further 5 routes out of Austin this summer…

  • Austin – Boise*
  • Austin – Portland
  • Austin – San Diego
  • Austin – San Francisco
  • Austin – Seattle

…while American’s new partnership with JetBlue will see its flyers able to make the most of the JetBlue codeshare between Austin and New York JFK (American Airlines is also set to operate its own aircraft on the Austin – JFK route from 3 April).

*New Alaska Airlines route announced yesterday which is “expected” to become a codeshare flight with American Airlines (more info)

Bottom Line

American Airlines is set to add 7 year-round services and 3 seasonal services to its network out of Austin. Excluding codeshare flights with partner airlines, these new route additions will see American Airlines offering customers year-round flights between Austin and 16 other US cities.
