The IHG European spring sale is now live (up to 20% off)

The IHG spring sale (for bookings at the chain’s participating European properties) is now live and runs through to 5 March for stays into 2025. The sale is in two parts. For most IHG properties the sale is offering IHG One Rewards members up to 20% off a property’s best flexible rate, while the Iberostar Beachfront Resorts have their own deal with savings of up to 15%.

• This promotion is valid for stays at participating IHG branded hotels in Europe (including the UK) between 2 March 2024 and 12 February 2025.
• The offer provides a public rate discount for direct bookings at participating hotels of 15% off the Best Flexible Rate, when using the Book Early and Save rate.
• IHG One Rewards members get an additional of 5% off the public rate (with the exception of Iberostar Beachfront Resorts).
• You must be a member at the time of the booking to qualify for the additional discount.
• The Best Flex rate is an unrestricted, non-qualified, non-discount rate.
• Bookings on the Book Early and Save rate in this Offer must be made at least three days in advance of arrival.
• The Book Early and Save rate is non-refundable, with full payment for the full stay due at time of booking.
• Bookings must be made at least three days in advance of arrival and are non-refundable and cannot be changed, with full payment for the entire stay to be made at time of booking. If you do not arrive at your hotel to check-in on your arrival date, your booking will be canceled, and you will not receive a refund.

Iberostar Beachfront Resorts – “Pay Now” rate offer

• Iberostar Beachfront Resorts are offering a minimum of 15% off ‘Pay Later’ rates for Stay Dates between 20 March 2024 until 14 July 2024. The additional 5% discount for IHG One Rewards members is not available for this promotion.
• Bookings must be made at least 21 days in advance of arrival and are non-refundable and cannot be changed, with full payment for the entire stay to be made at time of booking. If you do not arrive at your hotel to check-in on your arrival date, your booking will be canceled, and you will not receive a refund.
• The promotion can be used in conjunction with the Iberostar Up To 80K Points Offer (see here).

Quick thoughts

There are two key things to recognize here:

Firstly, the discounts on offer are based on the best flexible rate which is often not the cheapest rate that IHG publishes and that means that the savings of 15% – 20% will not always apply.

Secondly, even though the sale prices are based on a discounted version of the best flexible rate, they’re not flexible at all. In fact, a deposit equalling the full cost of the stay will be required at the time of booking, so this isn’t a sale suited to anyone whose plans are not firmed up.

At the time of writing, IHG hasn’t yet populated its search engine with the necessary discount codes to trigger the sale pricing (I have no idea why) so I can’t comment on how good or bad the deals on offer are.

Once the prices are live (and I have a free moment) I’ll post an update showing what I’ve found – hopefully we’ll see some decent rates at properties like the InterContinental London O2 (review), the InterContinental Paris Le Grand, the InterContinental Vienna, and the InterContinental Barcelona, as these are properties that have offered good deals in the other recent sales.

Bottom line

IHG is currently running a spring sale for stays in Europe and the UK in which it’s offering IHG One Rewards members up to 20% off the best flexible rates for bookings made by 5 March 2024 and completed between 2 March 2024 and 12 February 2025 (for all IHG’s European properties excluding Iberostar Beachfront Resorts) and for bookings made by 5 March 2024 and completed between 20 March and 14 July 2024 (for IHG’s Iberostar Beachfront Resorts).
