ITA Airways, the airline that rose from the ashes of Alitalia and which will be joining the Star Alliance next year, has launched a new promotion in which its offering up to 25% back on award bookings for travel though 15 November 2025.
The promotion
Members who book an ITA Award Ticket between 15 September and 15 November 2025 for travel during the same period will receive cashback in Volare points, calculated as a percentage of the points spent:
- 10% for domestic itineraries
- 20% for international itineraries
- 25% for intercontinental itineraries
Quick thoughts
I can’t seem to find a full set of terms and conditions for this promotion, but there are still a few things that need to be made clear.
Firstly, this is a “points back” offer and not a “discount” offer, and while those two things may not sound very different, in practice, they are.
For a discount promotion, the cost of the awards is reduced upfront whereas with a “points back” promotion the 10%/20%/25% are returned to a member’s account after booking.
What this means is that in order to participate, a member will have to have enough points in their account to book their chosen award at full value and they’ll get their rebate at a future date.
This is great for anyone with lots of Volare points, but not so great for anyone with a low balance.
Secondly, the rebate will post “within 60 days of the flight date” (so don’t expect an instantaneous rebate) and it only covers the points portion of your award booking. Whatever taxes, fees, and surcharges that you pay towards your award booking are not part of this promotion.
Thirdly, the promotion only applies to award bookings for flights operated by ITA Airways, so award bookings for partner flights will not trigger the rebate and bookings which include ITA + a partner airline will not trigger the rebate either.
Overall, this isn’t a “game changing” promotion, but it’s a nice one to be offered if you’re someone who was already considering an ITA Airways award.
Bottom line
If you have a stash of ITA Airways points, now may be the time to use them as the airline is currently offering up to 25% back (in points) on awards booked and flown by 15 November 2025.
