Japanese airline ANA has joined forces with Hilton Worldwide to “redefine culinary experiences in airport lounges and inflight”

ANA and Hilton are set to introduce new food and beverage options on select flights between Tokyo and the United States. The menus will be put together by the executive chefs at the Conrad Tokyo and Conrad New York.

Lufthansa opens new lounge at Dubai Airport’s new Concourse D

British Airways announced their new lounge (and Concorde Bar) at Dubai Airport’s concourse D just the other day and now Lufthansa is following them with their own lounge. Just like  British Airways, Lufthansa is housing it’s Business Class and First Class facilities within the same space and, if the initial pictures are anything to go by (see the link), I can’t say the lounge looks particularly exciting.

Qatar Airways to reveal ‘Super Business Class’ seat in November

Australian Business Traveller appears to have more information on the new “suite-like cabin” that’s planned for Qatar Airways’ new Business class offering and, if Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker is to be believed, the cabin will feature middle seats which turn into a double bed!

Air New Zealand to 3D print its own aircraft interior parts

Let me quickly reassure readers that none of the parts that Air new Zealand intends to make by itself appears to be integral to the aircraft staying up in the air! Instead this seems to be a rather clever solution to a supply chain issue that Air NZ has obviously had in the past.

British Airways Introduces a “Hypnotherapy Health Channel”

The obvious joke here is to wonder if British Airways are doing this for the benefit of passengers or if the real point of the exercise is to “persuade” those in the Club Class dormitories that they’re actually getting an up-to-date product 🙂

The official point of the channel is to “help listeners to ‘retrain’ the brain into new, healthier habits and behaviours“.

Boeing’s new self-cleaning toilet is on the way

No, the toilet isn’t going to pick up all the highly unpleasant debris left behind by other passengers (it’s not a miracle toilet!), Instead, apparently, Boeing has found a way to use UV light to kill almost all of the germs  in an aircraft’s toilet cubicle in just 3 seconds – something it will do after every use.

Emirates to Launch flights to Hanoi via Myanmar

Emirates has announced that, from 3 August this year, it will operate a 3-class Boeing 777-300 between Dubai and Yangon with the aircraft then proceeding on to Hanoi, Vietnam. The aircraft will then return to Dubai with the reverse of that routing (the route will be operated by a 2-class 777 from 1 October 2016).

Singapore Airlines to introduce “Companion App” for in-flight entertainment system

I confess that when I saw this headline the fist thought that crossed my mind was “oh great, another pointless use of technology that no one will bother with” but, after a closer look, I’m starting to think that this may be useful.

The companion app will allow customers to review the in-flight video and audio content that will be available on their flight in advance of departure and will enable them to “create pre-selected favourites lists, and control the seat-back IFE system – all using their personal electronic devices“.

The app is now available on iOS and Android tablets, with availability on iOS and Android mobile phones in the second quarter of 2016.
