At the height of the pandemic, Qatar Airways was the largest airline in the world as it continued to operate a significant number of international routes as other airlines mothballed their fleets. The airline’s Doha to London Gatwick route, however, didn’t survive those dark days but in a sign that we’re continuing on the road back to normality, Qatar Airways has confirmed that it will return to Gatwick this summer.
From 5 June, Qatar Airways will enhance (in a good way!) its offering to London by bringing back a daily service between Doha and Gatwick on the following schedule:
Outbound:
QR329 DOH 01:40 – 06:45 LGW (Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Sat & Sun)
QR329 DOH 01:50 – 06:55 LGW (Fri)
Inbound:
QR330 LGW 08:10 – 16:45 DOH (Sat)
QR330 LGW 08:25 – 17:00 DOH (Mon & Wed)
QR330 LGW 08:40 – 17:15 DOH (Sun)
QR330 LGW 09:00 – 17:35 DOH (Tue, Thu & Fri)
The route will be operated by a Qatar Airways Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner featuring 22 Business Class seats and 232 Economy Class seats.
Passengers shouldn’t expect this aircraft to offer the latest Qatar Airways Business Class seat (a new modified version of the Qsuite) as these seats are currently only being fitted to the larger 787-9 Dreamliners. Nevertheless, the Business Class seats found aboard the aircraft that will serve Gatwick Airport are still very good (reviewed in full here) and considerably better than most seats that British Airways continues to offer.
The resumption of the Doha – London Gatwick service means that Qatar Airways will be operating up to 42 weekly flights between Doha and London this summer season and when you also add in the airline’s summer services to/from Manchester and Edinburgh, the number of weekly flights that Qatar Airways will be offering to/from the UK as a whole rises to an impressive 64.
Bottom line
Qatar Airways says that it will restart its daily service between Doha and London Gatwick from 5 June 2022 using its Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Not only is this good news for those of us hoping to see more award availability opening up between the UK and Doha but because surcharges out of Gatwick are usually lower than the surcharges out of Heathrow, it’s also good news for those of us who don’t like paying more in taxes and fees than we absolutely have to when we’re redeeming our hard-earned miles and points.
