Two of the three big Gulf carriers suddenly seem to be giving Europe more attention.

Last week we read about Etihad bringing back First Class to Paris and adding more flights to the French capital, and we read about Etihad adding two new routes to Europe and increasing flights to Zurich. Now, we’re hearing that Qatar Airways is about to add more flights to one of its European routes for winter 2024/25.

Qatar Airways adds flights to Amsterdam

During the regular summer season, Qatar Airways operates a double-daily service between Doha and Amsterdam, but for the past few winter seasons (i.e. from the end of October through to the end of March), the airline has reduced the number of flights on this route to 10/week.

For this coming winter season, the same story appeared to be repeating with Qatar Airways dropping four of its weekly flights from 29 October.

Now, however, the airline appears to have changed its mind as it has now announced that it will add back the four missing flights from 12 November.

Between 28 October and 11 November 2014, QR275/276 will not operate on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Sundays.

From 12 November 2024, however, the schedule looks very similar to what the airline has been offering all summer.

QR275 DOH 06:10 – 11:15 AMS (Daily)
QR273 DOH 08:15 – 13:20 AMS (Daily)

QR276 AMS 12:50 – 21:00 DOH (Daily)
QR274 AMS 15:50 – 23:15 DOH (Daily)

The Qatar Airways press release confirms that the extra four flights will operate through to 29 March from when, a little surprisingly, the route is currently scheduled to only operate 7 weekly flights.

Quick thoughts

If you’re hung up on experiencing the Qatar Airways Qsuite, flights QR273/274 are the ones you should try to book as those flights are operated by Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with the Qsuite installed.

The fact is, however, that the Business Class seat on the A350-900 which operates QR275/276 is still an excellent seat, so if the timings for these flights work better for you, there’s no great reason to inconvenience yourself by holding out of the Qsuite.

As far as the extra flights go …

It’s interesting to see both Etihad and Qatar Airways adding more capacity to Europe for the winter season because all the news coming out of the airline industry in recent weeks has been about how demand may be softening, so it will be interesting to see how these flights perform.

Obviously we’re always delighted to see more flights being added to the schedules because more flights mean that there’s more chance of overcapacity on a route, and overcapacity can often lead to better fares.

In the post-pandemic environment, amazing Qatar Airways Business Class fares have been very hard to find, so let’s hope we see even more flights being added and prices starting to come down … although that may just be wishful thinking.
