Now live: Marriott’s two promotions for stays through 26 November 2024

A few weeks ago, Marriott announced two promotions that would run until 26 November 2024, so this is your reminder that as of today, both promotions are live. Registration is required for both promotions so if you haven’t done so already, you should probably head over to Marriott.com and do that right now.

The global promotion

Earn 2,000 bonus points on each stay of 2 or more nights consumed between 10 September and 26 November 2024. Earn an additional 2,000 bonus points on each stay of 2 or more nights at MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy destinations. Registration required.

• Stays at BVLGARI, The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, Marriott Executive Apartments®, and owner-occupied weeks at Marriott Vacation Club®, Grand Residences by Marriott®, Marriott Grand Residence Club, Sheraton Vacation Club, Westin Vacation Club, The Ritz-Carlton Club, The St. Regis Residence Club, and The Luxury Collection Residence Club, are not eligible for this promotion.
• Only one room at one property on each eligible paid stay is counted toward a Member’s eligible paid stay for the promotion.
• After the completed stay posts, the 2,000 bonus Points on each eligible paid stay of two or more nights at participating properties in Marriott Bonvoy will generally be awarded to the Member’s Account within 5 business days.
• For paid stays at Homes & Villas by Marriott Bonvoy, these bonus Points will be posted up to 6 weeks after the promotion earning period ends.
• The additional 2,000 bonus Points on each eligible paid stay of two or more nights at an MGM Collection destination, will also be awarded to the Member’s Account up to 6 weeks after the promotion’s earning period ends.
• A Member who elects to earn Miles is not eligible for this promotion.

The promotion for co-branded cardholders

An eligible Marriott Bonvoy cardholder can earn 2,000 bonus points on each eligible paid stay of two or more nights at all select properties participating in Marriott Bonvoy between 10 September and 26 November 2024.

Quick thoughts

As the global promotion is is not targeted, it should be waiting for you in your account when you log in.

Overall, neither of these promotions is going to get many people excited, bit they’re better than nothing at all.

Disappointingly, one night stays are excluded, award stays are excluded, and points and cash stays are excluded (so that’s not a great start) and on top of all that, the effective rebates on offer are far from generous.

We value Bonvoy points at 0.6 cents each (based on the value we can get out of them with relative ease) and this means that we value the effective rebate being offered by the global promotion at just $12/two nights. At Marriott’s MGM properties, that’s doubled to $24/two nights.

Using the same valuation, the cardholder promotion offers a further effective rebate of $12/two nights meaning that for some Bonvoy members there’s up to $36/two nights up for grabs … but as the overwhelming majority of Bonvoy members won’t be going anywhere near an eligible MGM property, it’s hard to suggest that there’s any more than $24/two nights available through these promotions.

No one is going to take a look at that effective rebate and start planning new Bonvoy bookings, are they? This is nothing more than a token gesture and it’s a gesture that won’t even cover the destination/resort fees that some of Marriott’s properties now charge.

Still, apart from an unusually generous double elite nights promotion launched earlier this year, this is par for the course for Marriott, so we’re not really surprised.

Bottom line

The latest Marriott Bonvoy global promotion and the latest promotion for co-branded cardholders are now both live and while they’re both about as rewarding a basic checking account from Chase, you may as well register to make sure that you don’t accidentally leave any points on the table.
