Lately, Marriott has been making a lot of announcements regarding its plans for new properties but the one that piqued my interest most was the announcement of a new luxury property that will open in the Italian lakes in 2025.

The Lake Como EDITION

2025 is still a few years away so, unsurprisingly, Marriott hasn’t been able to (or felt the need to) share a lot of details about the new Lake Como EDITION but what we do know is this:

  • It will probably look like property in the image at the top of this article.
  • The new EDITION will be located within a 19th-century building located on the western shore of Lake Como.
  • It will feature 145 “luxurious guest rooms”.
  • Two of those guestrooms will be penthouse suites.
  • The property will have a lobby bar, a floating pool, and multiple restaurants and bars overlooking Lake Como.
  • It will have views of the Bellagio mountains.

And that’s pretty much all that we’ve been told.

However…

Thanks to the single image Marriott has supplied and satellite imaging provided by Google Maps, I think I’ve identified precisely where the Lake Como EDITION will be and that tells us a little bit more.

The property in this image seems to match the property in the image Marriott has supplied…

…and that means that the new Lake Como EDITION will be taking over the site of what was once the Grand Hotel Britannia Excelsior which is in a town called Cadenabbia (a 75-minute drive from Milan Malpensa Airport).

And to give you an idea of where that is in relation to the rest of Lake Como, here’s one final image:

If you click through to this Tripadvisor page you’ll see a few images of the old property as well as images of the floating pool and the views of the surrounding areas.

While I prefer the areas around Lake Maggiore to the areas around Lake Como, there’s no doubt that the region as a whole is a beautiful place to visit so with Marriott only offering a very limited number of accommodation options on the lakes themselves (the Sheraton Lake Como Hotel probably being the better known), it’s great to hear that an EDITION property will be opening its doors on Lake Como in a few year’s time (assuming nothing changes in the intervening period!)

Unfortunately, it’s probably safe to assume that the Lake Como EDITION will be expensive in terms of cash and Bonvoy points once it’s fully open so anyone wanting to visit in peak season should probably start saving up now 🙂

Bottom line

Marriott has announced that it plans to open the Lake Como EDITION in 2025 and although that’s still some time away and things can change quickly in the hotel world, I’m excited at the thought of having a high-end property in the Italian Lakes at which we can burn our Bonvoy points.
