In an earlier article, we briefly compared nine of the best rate guarantees that are offered across the major hotel chains. In this article we look at Hyatt’s Book with Confidence price guarantee in a little more detail.
Hyatt’s Book with Confidence guarantee says that if you find a lower rate elsewhere, Hyatt will match it and give you a bit more on top. You get the matched rate plus your choice of 20% off or 5,000 World of Hyatt points.
What follows are the terms that matter taken from the full published terms and conditions. It’s more detail than you’ll find on the marketing page, but these claims are usually won or lost on a technicality, so it’s worth knowing where the pitfalls lie.

The basics that apply to every chain
These terms are shared across all the major guarantees. They’re worth knowing before you go any further, because most failed claims fall down on one of them.
- The lower rate must be for an identical booking: same hotel, same room type, same number of guests, same dates, same length of stay, same inclusions, same guarantee and cancellation policies, and same booking conditions. Even the slightest of differences and a claim is likely to be denied.
- Comparisons are made net of taxes, gratuities, and other fees.
- The lower rate must still be publicly available and bookable at the moment the chain checks it, not merely when you found it. This is the term that brings down a lot of claims.
- One claim per stay, and consecutive nights count as one stay.
- Changing the booking after approval will generally void it.
- Opaque and auction sites, unitemised packages, discount-code rates, and rates that aren’t immediately bookable are excluded everywhere.
A difference in cancellation policy is the most common reason a claim gets rejected, and that remains the case even when the rate you’ve found has the more generous policy. Ridiculous? Yes. But it happens.
The Hyatt terms in detail
In summary:
If you find a better rate than Hyatt is offering and your claim is approved, Hyatt will match the lower rate and give you your choice of an additional 20% off the lower rate or 5,000 World of Hyatt Bonus Points.
Eligibility:
To be eligible to make a ‘book with confidence’ claim you must:
- Book a stay at a participating Hotel through a Hyatt website (Hyatt.com, hyattinclusivecollection.com, or bahiaprincipe.com)
- Claim within 24 hours of your booking
- Only submit a claim request with Hyatt if you have found a publicly available and immediately bookable room-only rate for the same stay that is at least $1 lower than the comparable rate on the Hyatt website (3% lower if a currency conversion is required).
Note: Hyatt is now the only major chain that has kept a flat $1 threshold on a same-currency comparison.
The terms that you really need to know (and focus on):
- Any reservations made with consecutive night stays at the same location are viewed as one stay/reservation for purposes of the Book with Confidence price guarantee and shall only receive one reward if verified and eligible.
- Each Claim may only cover one room, and a guest may only submit up to three claims per night. All must be claims at the same hotel.
- The additional discount offered by the guarantee will only be applied to the room rate and is not valid on spa, restaurant, room service, in-hotel outlet charges, service charges, mandatory resort fees, gratuities, taxes, or incidental expenses.
- Claims submitted within 24 hours of the first available check-in time for the reservation are excluded (important to know for last minute bookings).
- Hyatt does not require the competing rate to be in the same currency. Where it isn’t, Hyatt converts both rates into a common currency of its own choosing and the competing rate must then be at least 3% lower to qualify. That’s a very different threshold to the $1 that applies when both rates are in the same currency.
- Rates on sites requiring a membership are eligible provided the membership is free (this is unique to Hyatt), the site waives the fee, or membership is created automatically as part of the booking. The rates found through paid memberships and invitation-only programs are not valid for the Hyatt Book with Confidence price guarantee.
- Once Hyatt confirms a valid claim, you cannot change the dates of the stay or the name on the reservation without invalidating it.
- Where a jurisdiction requires rates to include tax, Hyatt compares tax-inclusive against tax-inclusive, so the comparison is made on a like basis rather than being dismissed out of hand.
- Hyatt colleagues cannot submit a claim.
- Excluded rates include those offered through Hyatt Prive and Hyatt Leverage, rates that differ only because of the inclusion or absence of resort or destination fees, rates for hotels available through Mr & Mrs Smith, and rates that are government-funded in whole or in part (tourism stimulus promotions, for example).
- Excluded properties:
- Hyatt Vacation Club
- Destination Residences
- All residential or extended-stay apartment properties
- Anything on Homes & Hideaways by World of Hyatt
- UrCove
- The Venetian Resort Las Vegas
- The Standard
- The StandardX
- Bunkhouse Hotel
- Jewel Grande Montego Bay.
Note: Hyatt’s terms were last updated in April 2026 and they now list the participating brands explicitly, an these are worth checking before you book or claim since the list includes newer names like Hyatt Studios and Hyatt Vivid but, at the time of writing, does not include the Standard brand which we’d expect to be a participating brand.
Opinion
This is the pick of the best rate guarantees if you’re making an expensive booking (assuming you can get a claim honored!) as Hyatt is the only major chain to still allow claims when the price difference is just $1.
On cheaper bookings, it’s close between Hyatt, Hilton, and Marriott, but as Hyatt only offers a discount of 20% against the 25% offered by the other two chains, it’s not quite as good (I’m not including IHG in the comparison as it doesn’t offer a discount at all).
