In the US, we can earn bonus Marriott Bonvoy points when we book Uber rides and order food or groceries through Uber eats, while in the UK, Uber has partnered with British Airways to allow members of the Executive Club pick up bonus Avios with every ride.
Right now, Uber and British Airways are shining a light on their partnership by launching a new short-term promotion in which eligible bookings made through the Uber app will earn Executive Club members up to 1,000 Avios.
The promotion
Earn up to 1,000 bonus Avios through select spending made through the Uber app between 5 August and 1 September 2024.
A minimum of two transactions are needed (you’ll earn 500 bonus Avios per transaction) and you’ll also earn 1 Avios per £1 of qualifying spending as per the standard rules of the Uber/BA partnership.
Key terms
- To qualify for the 1,000 bonus Avios, eligible participants must book and complete two individual pre-booked Uber trips between 00:01 on 5 August 2024 to 23:59 on 1 September 2024.
- 500 bonus Avios will be awarded for each of the two pre-booked Uber trips taken.
- Offer is valid for rides taken in mainland UK and Northern Ireland only.
- Only one Uber account can be linked to an Executive Club account and the holder of each account must be the same person.
- Standard Avios earn rate is 1 Avios per £1 of qualifying spend for rides booked and completed via the Uber app.
- Only selected Uber Ride products will be eligible for the Avios award. Eligible Uber Ride categories are UberX, UberXL, Uber Assist, Uber Access, Uber Comfort, Uber Exec, Uber Lux, pre-booked Uber, Uber Pet, Uber Green, Local Cab, Coach, Rail, Eurostar, Lime e-bike & e-scooters and Uber Boat by Thames Clippers.
- Bonus Avios will be awarded within 24 hours after the completed journey.
Full terms and conditions can be found on this page.
Quick thoughts
There are three key things to note here:
Firstly, there doesn’t appear to be any need (or way) to register for this promotion. As long as your Uber and Executive Club accounts are linked, you should earn the bonus Avios if you engage in qualifying activity during the promotion period.
Secondly, it looks like you must pre-book a qualifying trip to earn the bonus Avios (i.e you can’t just book minutes before you want to travel) … although the terms and conditions aren’t very clear on this point so regular bookings may trigger the bonus as well.
Thirdly, you don’t actually have to travel with Uber to make the most of this promotion as the terms and conditions clearly show that coach, rail, and Eurostar bookings made through the Uber app will all qualify for the bonus Avios.
This third point should make it relatively easy for a lot of people to lock-in the full 1,000 Avios as it’s easy to pre-book trains on the Uber app and, as an added bonus, you’ll get a 10% rebate in the form of an Uber credit when you do.
Bottom line
Uber & BA are currently offering Executive Club members who have linked their BA and Uber accounts the opportunity to pick up what seems to be a very easy 1,000 bonus Avios between today and 1 September 2024.
As the terms and conditions aren’t particularly clear on what is meant by ‘pre-booked trips’, I would be tempted to attempt to earn the bonus though rail bookings made via the Uber app (aren’t all Uber bookings ‘pre-booked?’), but if any readers trigger the 500 Avios bonuses with regular Uber bookings, please let us know in the comments and we’ll update this article.
