With France having announced that it will be accepting fully vaccinated visitors from the United States from 9 June, Delta has announced that it is adding flights to Paris from Minneapolis/St Paul and Boston and that a seasonal service to the south of France will also operate this summer.

Vaccinated US Visitors To Be Welcomed By France

From 9 June, France will open its doors to US travelers who have been “fully vaccinated”.

Fully vaccinated travelers will still be required to present a negative COVID test upon arrival (taken less than 72 hours before arrival for a PCR test/taken less than 48 hours before arrival for an antigen test) but they will not be subject to any self-isolation or quarantine measures that visitors from other countries may face.

Importantly, France (along with a lot of other countries) defines a “fully vaccinated” visitor as a visitor who has been vaccinated using a vaccine approved by the European Medicines Agence (Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, and AstraZeneca) and for whom two weeks have passed since their second dose (in the case of two-dose vaccines) or four weeks in the case of a single-dose vaccine. Travelers who do not fulfill these criteria are not considered “fully vaccinated” and may only enter for “essential reasons” and will be required to self-isolate for a minimum of 7 days.

Delta’s Expanded Paris Flights

Delta currently serves Paris (CDG) twice daily out of Atlanta, once daily out of New York (JFK), and 3x/week out of Detroit. From 7 July, flights will also be offered out of Minneapolis/St Paul, and from 5 August flights will be offered out of Boston.

Minneapolis/St Paul

From 7 July, Delta is bringing back service between Minneapolis/St Paul and Paris (CDG). The route will be served 3x/week with the schedule currently looking like this:

DL42 MSP 16:48 – 08:15+1 day CDG (Wed, Fri & Sun)
DL43 CDG 10:30 – 12:57 MSP (Wed, Fri & Sun)

The route will be operated by an Airbus A330-300 with 34 Delta One seats, 40 Delta Comfort+ seats, and 219 regularEconomy Class seats.

Boston

From 5 August, Delta will bring back service between Boston and Paris (CDG). The route will be served daily with the schedule currently looking like this:

DL224 BOS 119:05 – 08:15+1 day CDG (Daily)
DL225 CDG 10:25 – 12:30 BOS (Daily)

The route will be operated by an Airbus A330-300 with 34 Delta One seats, 40 Delta Comfort+ seats, and 219 regular Economy Class seats.

Delta Adds Flights To Nice

Starting on 8 July (just a day after increased services to Paris are launched), Delta will offer flights between New York (JFK) and Nice in the south of France. The route will be operated 3x/week on the following schedule:

DL28 JFK 19:39 – 10:00+1 day NCE (Tue, Thu & Sat)
DL29 NCE 12:00 – 15:00 JFK (Wed, Fri & Sun)

The new flights between New York and Nice will be served by Delta’s Boeing 767-400 aircraft offering 34 Delta One seats, 20 Delta Premium Select seats, 28 Delta Comfort+ seats, and 156 regular Economy Class seats.

Bottom Line

France is about to open up to fully vaccinated US travelers and Delta has taken note. From July, Delta will serve Paris (CDG) from Minneapolis/St Paul and it will offer a new service between New York (JFK) and Nice while from August, it will again offer a daily service between Boston and Paris (CDG). All in all, Delta’s current plans show the airline operating to 10 European destinations this summer but that number is likely to rise as more countries open up the borders to fully vaccinated visitors.

  1. Just a heads up that the JFK-NCE route isn’t a new route more rather it’s a resumption of a summer seasonal route that has been in service for many years (I flew it back in 2015 from NCE) and was due to be up-gauged to an A330 however the route was suspended in 2020 due to the pandemic.
