Iberia Plus has launched a Avios promotion on a handful of transatlantic routes for travel through September and the headline number doesn’t lie – flyers can now enjoy a 40% reduction on the Avios needed for an Economy Class redemption for travel to and from three US cities in the next few months.
[HT: Frequent Flyer Bonuses]
The promotion
Iberia is discounting Avios redemptions by up to 40% on Economy flights between Madrid and New York, Boston, or Washington D.C., in either direction.
The discount brings the cost of the cheapest Economy Class award down to 11,700 Avios, taxes and fees excluded and do not get discounted.
Bookings need to be made between 18 and 29 June 2026, for travel between 18 June and 30 September 2026.
Key terms
- Up to 40% off Avios on redemption tickets across selected Iberia Group routes (Iberia, Iberia Express, and Iberia Regional Air Nostrum)
- Discounted Economy redemptions to Washington, New York, and Boston start from 11,700 Avios.
- Taxes and fees are excluded from the discount and still payable in full
- Applies to one-way or return bookings made by 29 June 2026
- Valid for travel between 18 June and 30 September 2026 (inclusive)
- Discount applies to flights from Madrid to the listed cities and from those cities back to Madrid
- Does not apply to Iberia Group Air Shuttle, Vueling, or LEVEL flights
- Bookings must be made through ib.com or Iberia’s contact centre
- The promotion is personal and non-transferable, valid only for the person who received the original offer email
- Cannot be combined with any other Avios promotion running during the same period
Check the promotion page for the full terms and conditions.
Quick thoughts
There are a few key things that I should point out before I go any further.
Firstly, the terms suggest that this is a targeted offer, but I never received an email, text, or any other message to tell me that this promotion was on and I appear to be able to book the discounted rates just fine, so I think we can probably ignore that line in the t&cs.
Secondly, the terms and the very brief promotion page suggest that the discounted Avios one-way fares start from 11,700 Avios + taxes & surcharges, but I can see deals starting as low as 9,600 Avios for one-way travel.

Thirdly, be aware that these cheapest deals are for Basic Economy bookings, so you won’t get a checked bag allowance unless you pay more.
Fourthly, because this is Iberia and not British Airways offering these deals, the surcharges are not at all scary. For one-way travel from the US the taxes and fees are approximately $92 and from Madrid the taxes and fees are approximately $130.
Finally, don’t forget that you can transfer points directly into Iberia Avios from Chase and Amex, but as you can move Avios to Iberia Plus from all the other Avios earning programs free of charge (often via British Airways), you can also use any points you have with Citi and Capital One to top up an Iberia Plus account should that need arise.
Overall, this looks like a nice promotion for anyone hoping to cross the pond this summer and it could make a family vacation considerably more affordable.
Before you book, however, make sure that you take a look at the cash fares for the dates that you’re happy to travel because if they happen to be super-low, using Avios to make the booking may not make the most economic sense (even with a 40% discount).
Bottom line
Iberia is offering up to 40% off Avios redemptions on Economy Class bookings on its routes between Madrid and New York, Boston, and Washington D.C., with the best deals offering one-way travel from just 9,600 Avios + taxes and fees.
Bookings must be made between 18 and 29 June 2026 for travel by 30 September 2026, so you only have a maximum of 10 days to make some plans and you only have a little over 3 months in which to travel, but as these are traditionally months during which the kids are out of school, that may not be as big of an issue as it could have been.
