Cathay Pacific has announced that it will fly to eight North American cities next year after it adds another US city to its route map in April 2025.

The Hong Kong based carrier has confirmed that after Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Toronto and Vancouver, Dallas Fort Worth will be its eighth North American destination, and a little counter intuitively (considering the airline operates to New York), this will be its longest route.

a map of the world

The new 4x/week service between Hong Kong and Dallas Fort Worth is set to launch on 24 April and as things stand (things can change), this is the planned schedule:

CX898 HKG 16:05 – 17:55 DFW (Mon, Tue, Thu & Sat)
CX897 DFW 23:55 – 05:05+2 days HKG (Mon, Tue, Thu & Sat)

The route will be operated by a Cathay Pacific A350-1000 which offers …

46 Business Class seats (Safran Cirrus III seats) set out in a 1-2-1 reverse herringbone layout which offer a little over 20″ of width and which can be turned in a lie-flat bed that’s 75″ long.

32 Premium Economy seats (Collins Aerospace MiQ seats) set out in a 2-4-2 layout and offering 18.5″ of width 40″ of pitch (leg room) and 9″ of recline.

256 regular Economy Class seats set out in a 3-3-3 layout and offering 18″ of width, 32″ of pitch and 6″ of recline.

All seats in this aircraft have access to HD touch sensitive displays, the airline’s Panasonic entertainment system, universal AC power outlets and USB-A ports.

Quick thoughts

With American Airlines apparently showing no interest in bringing back its route between Dallas and Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific has stepped in to fill the void and given the choice of flying with American or Cathay across the Pacific, I know which I’d choose!

Dallas would seem to be a logical destination for Cathay Pacific to fly to as it’s home to American Airlines (it’s fellow oneworld alliance airline) so, presumably, as well as catering to passengers flying point to point, this route will also allow Cathay to fee into American’s domestic connections.

As far as the aircraft operating this route goes, clearly, the most comfortable cabin to be in on this aircraft will be the Business Class cabin, but it’s worth noting that with 40″ of pitch, the Premium Economy cabin offers more leg room than any other Premium Economy cabin found on aircraft operating across the Pacific or the Atlantic.

Also, with 32″ of pitch and 18″ of width, the Economy Class seats on the Cathay Pacific A350-1000 offer the same or more personal space than most other Economy cabins found on aircraft flying across the Pacific or the Atlantic, and that bodes well for this 8,100+ mile route.

Bottom line

Cathay Pacific has confirmed that it will launch flights between Hong Kong and Dallas Fort Worth from 24 April 2025 using its A350-1000 aircraft and bookings are already open (although we can’t see any premium cabin award availability yet).
