This is more of a note rather than a full-on blog article just to warn flyers that British Airways has changed the baggage allowance afforded to travelers flying in Economy Class to/from Brazil.

Historically British Airways offered a generous 2-piece checked-baggage allowance to all Economy Class passengers it carried to/from Brazil with oneworld Emerald and Silver members getting a further 1-bag allowance.

Now, for all flights booked from 1 February 2019 the standard Economy Class baggage allowance to/from Brazil will fall in line with most other British Airways routes – one checked bag per Economy Class passenger with oneworld Emerald and Silver members getting a further 1-bag allowance.

In addition, charges for an extra bag are now also in line with what British Airways charges on most of its other routes:

Bottom Line

If your trip was booked before 1 February 2019 it is not affected by the news above. If, on the other hand, you’re planning a trip to Brazil with British Airways please be aware of the restrictions in place as of Friday last week.

  1. I think that eventually all carriers will charge more for Brazil since the country changed the rules on baggage fees. Now it will be more inline with other countries.

  2. What is the benefit to the airline by doing so? It is always the consumer who has to suffer due to all these rules.
