British Airways has announced that it will operate more flights across the Atlantic next summer than it has ever operated before with cities like Miami, Austin, Las Vegas, and Vancouver amongst those getting boosted service.

Here’s what you need to know about BA’s plans for North America in summer 2025.

The route boosts

London (LHR) – Austin

As things stand, British Airways operates a singly daily flight between London and Austin and that schedule is expected to be maintained through the winter season.

From 31 March 2025, however, British Airways will add a further six weekly flights to this route leaving it with the following summer schedule:

BA191 LHR 11:50 – 16:00 AUS (Daily)
BA187 LHR 16:05 – 20:20 AUS (Mon – Sat)

BA190 AUS 18:05 – 09:35+1 day LHR (Daily)
BA186 AUS 22:15 – 13:40+1 day LHR (Mon – Sat)

BA191/190 are currently operated by an A350-1000, but these flights will be taken over by a 777-200 from 30 March. Fortunately, the currently loaded seat maps show that the 777 scheduled to operate the Austin route has been refurbished and now offers the British Airways Club Suite in its Business Class cabin (as does the 787-10 which will be operating BA187/186).

London (LHR) – Las Vegas

During the current summer season, British Airways has been operating a daily service between Heathrow and Las Vegas (as well as 5 weekly flights from Gatwick), and for the winter season, the route will continue with a daily service from Heathrow while it will lose the service from Gatwick.

When the summer season comes around next year, this route will see a further 3 weekly flights added taking the number of flights between Heathrow and Vegas up to 10 (the Gatwick service returns, but only 3x/week).

Here’s what the Heathrow schedule looks like in April:

BA271 LHR 12:15 – 15:10 LAS (Wed, Fri, & Sun)
BA275 LHR 17:00 – 19:40 LAS (Daily)

BA270 LAS 17:05 – 11:15+1 day LHR (Wed, Fri, & Sun)
BA274 LAS 21:35 – 15:35+1 day LHR (Daily)

Unfortunately, however, this isn’t a long term change as the schedules show BA271/270 only operating until the end of May, so with just 2 months of 13 weekly flights, this isn’t a huge move by BA.

London (LHR) – Miami

For summer 2024, British Airways has been operating a daily service between London Heathrow and Miami using its A380 aircraft. During the upcoming winter, the airline will double down on this route by adding a second daily A380 service to cater to the sun seekers.

Ordinarily, BA would reduce this route back down to a single daily flight from the start of the summer season, but in 2025, this is what the April schedule looks like:

BA207 LHR 10:30 – 15:00 MIA (Daily)
BA209 LHR 14:40 – 19:00 MIA (Daily)

BA206 MIA 17:20 – 07:05+1 day LHR (Daily)
BA208 MIA 21:00 – 10:40+1 day LHR (Daily)

The double daily service continues (although BA209/208 will be operated by a 787-10 instead of an A380) and it looks like that’s set to stay that way for the full summer season.

London (LHR) – Pittsburgh

Currently, BA operates 6 weekly flights between London Heathrow and Pittsburgh with Sunday being the one day of the week that the service doesn’t operate.

For the winter season, this route will see the number of flights drop to 5/week (Mon, Wed, Fri, & Sun) but from 30 March 2025 (the start of summer season), the route will get a daily service for the first ever time.

This is what the summer schedule currently looks like:

BA171 LHR 17:05 – 20:10 PIT (Daily)
BA170 PIT 21:55 – 10:20+1 day LHR (Daily)

This route is set to be operated by a 3-class Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner which, disappointingly, offers an antiquated Business Class product that has no place in a modern fleet.

London (LHR) – Washington D.C.

The route between London Heathrow and DC is set to follow in the Miami route’s footsteps by seeing the joint biggest increase in service.

Currently (i.e. summer season 2024), British Airways operates this route twice daily with a mix of 777 and A380 aircraft.

The double daily service is set to continue through the winter (although the aircraft operating this route change to a 787-9 and a 350-1000), and from 30 March 2025, the route will be operated 3x/day for a total of 21 weekly flights.

Here’s what that schedule now looks like (BA291/290 are the new flights):

BA217 LHR 12:35 – 15:35 IAD (Daily)
BA291 LHR 14:30 – 17:35 IAD (Daily)
BA293 LHR 17:25 – 20:30 IAD (Daily)

BA216 IAD 17:55 – 06:15+1 day LHR (Daily)
BA290 IAD 19:25 – 07:45+1 day LHR (Daily)
BA292 IAD 22:45 – 11:05+1 day LHR (Daily)

If you’re booking into Business Class on this route, BA217/218 are the flights that you should be aiming to get on as those are currently scheduled to be operated by 777 aircraft that have the new Club Suite cabin. BA291/290 are set to be operated by a 787-8 and BA293/292 are set to be operated by an A380, and both of those aircraft offer the old Club World product.

Quick thoughts

The only thing that needs to be added to the information above is this:

These new flights have only recently been added to the British Airways booking engine, so as BA always makes a minimum of 4 Business Class awards, 2 Premium Economy awards, and 8 Economy Class awards available on every flight on the day those flights are released for bookings, there should be a lot of award availability on these routes right now (for next summer).

Bottom line

British Airways has announced that it will be adding a significant number of flights to its Heathrow transatlantic schedule next year with Miami and Washington D.C. getting the most new flights with 7 each. Austin follows closely with 6 new flights added, and Vegas and Pittsburgh will be getting more flights from Heathrow as well.
