Singapore Airlines “Suites Class” is one of the best First Class products flying anywhere in the world but it’s only a product you’ll find on the airline’s Airbus A380 aircraft.

Singapore Airlines currently offers two different versions of its suites. The older version (reviewed here)….

…and the newer version which was introduced into service in December 2017:

There are pros and cons to both – the newer Suite is considerably more advanced than its predecessor but there are only 6 suites on the aircraft with the new product while the A380s with the older product offer 12.

Given the choice of the new suite and a limited chance of an award seat or the older suite and a much better chance of a points booking I’ll take the latter…and that’s why I like the latest Singapore Airlines schedule change.

As it did in 2018, for summer 2019 Singapore Airlines will be replacing one of the two 777s which it currently operates between Singapore and London with an A380 and the A380 that it will be employing comes with the older-style suites.

Between 1 July and 31 August 2019 this is what the Singapore Airlines summer schedule will look like for the Singapore – London route [HT: Routes Online]:

SQ306 SIN 01:10 – 07:45 LHR (Daily A380 service)*
SQ308 SIN 09:00 – 15:40 LHR (Daily A380 service)**
SQ318 SIN 12:35 – 19:15 LHR (Daily 777 service)
SQ322 SIN 23:30 – 05:55+1 day LHR (Daily A380 service)***

SQ305 LHR 09:25 – 05:30+1 day SIN (Daily A380 service)*
SQ317 LHR 11:25 – 07:30+1 day SIN (Daily A380 service)***
SQ319 LHR 20:50 – 16:55+1 day SIN (Daily 777 service)
SQ321 LHR 22:05 – 18:10+1 day SIN (Daily A380 service)**

*New A380 service with older suites
**Existing A380 service with old suites
***Existing A380 service with new suites

The move from a 777 to an A380 is actually a very positive move for award availability across all the premium cabins:

  • The 777 doesn’t offer the Suites Class product while the incoming A380 does
  • The 777 only offers 4 First Class seats while the incoming A380 offers 12
  • The 777 only offers 48 Business Class seats while the incoming A380 offers 60
  • The 777 only offers 28 Premium Economy seat while the incoming A380 offers 36

If you’ve been waiting for award availability to open up on this route now may be the time to check to see if any has appeared.

Bottom Line

This is good news for flyers on the Singapore – London route. Some may have wished for an A380 with the newer suites onboard but, from a miles & points perspective, having another 12-suite A380 on this route is the better of the two options.

    • You would have to use the Singapore Airlines website as the airline doesn’t release the same number of award seats to its Star Alliance partners as it releases to members of it own KrisFlyer program – I suggest searching one sector at a time.
